Supper happens early here.
After, I always come back to my desk.
Pecking at my keyboard late Wednesday, I looked up to discover snow suddenly pouring down, being whipped about in a strong squall.

In a matter of moments, the ground, trees and bushes were coated.
While snow is not uncommon in March, this particular snowfall was totally unexpected.
A lovely setting for Mrs Cardinal.

And her gorgeous husband.

The red-wings seemed a little taken aback at this sudden change in the scene but I was delighted!
.
There has been so little snow through the Winter and here on the second day of Spring, – I don’t know what you’d call it, certainly not a storm.
It was hardly more than a cloudburst really, but quite effective.
Having taken these few pictures, I returned to my desk until once more I lifted my gaze…

Leaping up, I rushed out, calling:
“Grant! Come see!”
.
The sky had cleared and now the Sun was setting.
.
Lighting the newly-painted scene.
.
With each moment it changed.
.
It made me laugh with delight.
.
Yes, the colour is true.
.
The Sun was sinking fast below the hill behind us.
.
Yet rays appeared, opposite.
This was not something I’ve ever seen before.
.
I wanted to be everywhere at once.
What did this look like, from above?
.
Several times I came back indoors.
.
Only to rush out again.
.
To capture the deepening hues.
.
Of the coming night.
.
The woods seemed lit on fire.
.
Words are inadequate for such an experience.
.
In my many years, I’ve been fortunate to enjoy some exciting experiences.
.
But there are none that can compare to the awe with which I have always viewed the natural world.
.
The beauty, the drama, the wonder of these 20 minutes, incomparable.
Thank you so much, Carolyn, for the beautiful tale of the extraordinary weather in your part of the world! Your delight was infectious, and made me wonder about the beauty of nature!

That was lovely indeed, and you captured it so well. During this week in 2021, we also had snow in Beetley, quite a lot of it. In 2023/24 we have had no snow at all, which pleased me immensely. But we have had so much rain, it has become very wearing to endure day after day of relentless downpours, or ittitating showers that always catch you unaware.

Beautiful snow! Mr & Mrs Cardinal seem very pleased with their surroundings. The sun shining on the snow is so picturesque – how can one not want to take a 100 (or more) pictures of this? The colours in your last two photos are incredibly beautiful … I wouldn’t mind being there to witness this lovely evening myself. Thanks for capturing such a wonderful spectacle.
