This morning’s grey vista was just too grey, so I went looking for something more cheerful from past years.
In the process I proved to myself that I was right in believing that our shrubs are far too advanced for January. At left was March 4th 2022

Above was 4th January 2024

“It’s all wrong out there!”
Dee Dee stares endlessly out, worried about climate change.
Though I am not overly concerned about the crop of weeds that succumbed to frost, I do wonder about the bushes and trees.

.

“As long as I have a place to perch!”

That poor bush hasn’t been the same since the sparrows took it over.
.
“I heard you needed a subject for your blog?”
“I don’t know what that is, but I’s always happy to help.”

.

“How come you don’t sit in the bird feeder anymore, Little Red?”

“The birdies asked me nicely, if I wouldn’t mind.”
.

“It’s all about understanding and cooperation, isn’t it?

“Oh! I just dropped off in the middle of a meditation!”

“Did you hear, missus, that there’s a big storm coming?”
“Just thought I’d mention it in case you need to lay in supplies.”
“You know, like nuts and bird seeds.”
.
“‘cos it gets very hard for us to keep our bodies and souls together when everything is froze.”

.

.

“If you has enuff pictures, I’ll be going now?”
.
No sooner had Little Red rushed off…
…than Scooter popped out for a big drink.
.
Yesterday she was collecting more grass for her nest.
So Grant rushed off to find her more.
I wonder what she thinks, when what she needs suddenly arrives on her doorstep.
“Oh, cool!”

.

Since Scooter’s first reappearance on 2nd December (photo on left)

she seems to have filled out (above) and she is a busy little creature. This morning her breakfast offering was sliced carrot, apple and peanuts.
.
A Saturday wildlife offering. These little faces make me happy.
We do think alike Carolyn, I cannot have my breakfast until everyone in the garden is served and
wated with the warm/hot water depending on the weather. I love your close-up’s of the cuties!
Thank you for your musings!
Joanna
They make me happy too. They are very accommodating, but perhaps it’s just that they know when they are to a good thing with having a Mum and Dad who care so much!
The squirrel and groundhog make me smile. Happy to see nest-building, and I know you won’t ever leave them short of good things to eat.
Best wishes, Pete.
I think Scooter should be the most happy groundhog in the world … getting enough food and bedding in the middle of Winter must be an absolute joy! Great photos of Little Red – in some photos he even seems to smile. You’re right, these pictures also make me happy 🙂
