For a sky like this I had to nip outside, but in only a nightshirt and bare feet nip was the operative word.
12F/-11C ought to feel colder, I thought, but at ground level the air was still, although the cloud was travelling at a decent speed.
.
But not being that brave, I rushed in to do my early morning revival and haul on a few more layers of protection, all of which took 7 minutes, apparently.

.

By the time I came back out the scene had changed.
Quite a bit.
.
The drama was soon done but a pretty sky entertained me as I washed dishes.

.

“Don’t look now, Doris, but we’ve got company.”
The mourning doves were a little disconcerted by the arrival of a flock of starlings.
.
But they seem less boisterous than in spring.

.

They’ve been pecking about in the grass for a few days.

Maybe they heard snow is coming?
.
When/if that happens, they will be demanding suet.

.

“Don’t sneak up on me like that!”
.
Another bird came to check in the other day…
.
“I heard you were looking for me?”

See, how they always turn up?
Haven’t seen it since.

.

As we’re on sky again, yesterday we had a preliminary snow squall which was rather picturesque.
.
It was vastly more interesting than the laundry I was pretending to deal with.
Looking south it was growly monsters.

.

While from another window

.
Before long, blue prevailed.

.

“Will you keep us in nuts if the storm comes?
.
What do you think?
Thank you, Carolyn, for your apt post devoted to the photos the sky, the many birds. ! on the Birds Day ! Photos of the starlings are spectacular! Thank you!
Joanna ,
You have rather more starlings than we have, but they do like to travel in large companies don’t they!
Beetley dropped to +5C today, and that felt cold after the dull weather and rain preceding it. We haven’t had Starlings in the garden for a long while now, just the usual suspects of Wood Pigeons, Blackbirds, Sparrows, a Jay, and a lone Robin. But they have all been down every day to enjoy the bread or whatever else I put out for them.
Best wishes, Pete.
Oh my, -11C … I’m not so sure I want to be outside in such cold weather! (Actually, to me the term is more “freezing weather”). But one thing that remains is that the wildlife braves the cold to come and eat at your place – it’s nice to see some of the familiar faces again!
