Comparatively, I have seen better sunrises…

..more flashy, more dramatic, perhaps?
There have been times when I gasped, “Oh my!”

Today it was more like “Hmmm, that’s nice.”

But as I continued to watch….

clouds broke up

and light caught their tops, just so…
…before the master crept above the horizon

It reminded me of a long-ago dawn in a distant place.

Then, we had been up three nights in a row in the basic domestic terminal at Khartoum airport.

Jet-lagged and perplexed we may have been

but sunrise over the Sahara cured us of our troubles.

This morning’s show was not unlike that one

and as I watched its many stages

it once more worked its restorative power.

“Yes, that’s awfully nice…”

“…but do you suppose..”

“…we might have breakfast unmolested?”

“…by that?!“
A flock of geese passed overhead in the Spring-like morning air

It’s another day.
Thank you, Carolyn, for a wonderful post of spectacular photos of the sunrise. I cannot even imagine the beauty of the sunrise or sunset over the Sahara. I loved the flock of geese!
Joanna.
What a wonderful day!
I certainly gasped while looking at your sunrise photos! You are truly spoiled with all those amazing sunrises (and sunsets) 😉. And to watch sunrise over the Sahara … must have been spectacular!
I never had any desire to visit Khartoum, but a sunrise over the Sahara is indeed memorable.
Best wishes, Pete.
The Blue and White Nile were a bit of a disappointment. The trip did have it’s moments…
