You thought I was done with Monday?.
After supper I returned to sky watching which is an evening activity any day.
.

But especially days like this.
.

Motion at the window drew the attention of a groundhog whose face emerged from a burrow. It watched me for several minutes.
He looked disappointed by the absence of carrot, so I suggested to him that he toddle along to the walkway where I had deposited some peanuts…
.

Having just seen a fox which was also disappointed at finding no snacks.
.

Then I remembered to look out a back window, facing north.
.

Returning to my desk, it wasn’t long before I was up again.
Another little friend came seeking nuts. Could you resist a face like that? She’s the one that comes to the door. She would probably come in if I let her and wouldn’t that be a circus!
.

My nosy friend had taken my advice about getting a meal on the walkway but it seems it didn’t satisfy him.
.

Because 15 minutes later, Grant noticed him noshing in a flowerbed.
.

By then the evening had brightened considerably.
.

And continued to.
Last light catching the treetops propelled me again from my seat.
.

What magic does its sight hold? Like an insect, I am drawn to light!
.

Since those long ago days in Cambodia, watching a sunset, looking out over the sea, I have never been able to resist the pull.
.

Be it vibrant and dramatic or muted and calm.
.

There is something very special about last light.
.
You are right, Carolyn, there is magic in twilight and sunset. Why don’t your friends have snacks? Summer is not the time for dieting, at least not for animals!

I’m sure that the Groundhogs are driven by the need to increase weight before the long hibernation period. I would be a complete sucker for over-feeding them if we had them in Britain. The Skunk too, as long as it didn’t spray me!
Best wishes, Pete.
