Energy

Hudson River near Fort Edward

When the Sun comes out after a snowstorm, the world is very beautiful, though I appreciate that not everyone shares my enthusiasm.

Those same people will think me mad for saying that while I don’t like driving in it, I do enjoy being out in a snowstorm. For a short time. I’m not that mad!

.

Thunderstorms appeal to me equally, but I don’t fancy being struck by lightning, so you are unlikely to see me outdoors during such an event. I watch them from a safe window.

It is the energy of a storm I so enjoy. I get the same feeling watching waves pounding against a rocky cliff. Or listening to wind in the trees.

.

“A little bit less wind would be quite nice!”

Wednesday night and well into Thursday a howling wind tore through the woods above the house sounding like an out of control freight train and I do feel sorry for birds and wildlife when the weather is harsh.

.

The Little Red twins chase each other about all the time, but you would think in extreme weather, when they need to conserve energy, they might agree to share!

.

“These ones is mine!”

However, I place their nuts in a number of places.

.

“And these are mine!”

And even then, they bicker!

As only naughty little red squirrels can!

.

“Don’t tell tales about us missus!”

They seem to love the inter-species underground tunnel.

We see them popping in and out like this constantly.

.

In the first glimmer of dawn, the snow looks blue.

And the light has an ethereal quality.

.

This was the start of a beautiful winter’s day.

  1. I like reading your posts, Carolyn, but storms, snow and winds are not for me. I love the tales about the squirrels and their photos. So good to see them eating happily! Your captions are brilliant! Thank you!
