A small handful

0927/26th September 2025

Friday dawned heavily overcast but the rain had stopped and as we had to pick up Willow’s medication at the vet clinic, we decided to extend the trip and check out the modified countryside.

.

route 372 heading into Cambridge

The change was impressive.

.

A view from route 22. The Green Mountains were shrouded in heavy mist.

.

But the nearby hedgerows and trees and even the field were quite startling.

.

The trees at the vet clinic always look lovely in Autumn.

.

The ground beautifully carpeted with fallen leaves.

.

Leaving the clinic we randomly turned right to follow the lane into the countryside.

.

Wisps of mist still clinging to the hill above a famous farm.

.

The tangled shrubbery was a riot of mixed colours.

.

Around every turn, another vision.

.

Of vibrancy.

.

The shapes of many trees are as compelling as their colour.

.

The colours often stand out better in grey light.

.

A derelict barn, overtaken by invasive vines.

A picturesque but poignant and common sight.

.

We had not gone far at this stage but I had already taken dozens of photos. Some I discarded immediately as is always the case with drive-by photography, the failures by far exceeding those that deserve consideration.

.

Some, although accurate, seem not quite believable, such is the intensity of colour. In the end I decided to post only those that I hope are pleasing to look at.

.

Which still gives me several days worth, as I cannot post them all at once.

.

This was a small handful to be getting on with.

And of course, Fall has really only just started.

  1. There is nothing like autumn for the vibrant colour, Carolyn, and you must be in heaven taking hundreds of images! The good news is that it is only the beginning of Fall! And all your photos are worth sharing.

  2. The colours are changing fast there, and they are nice to look at. It is still quite green here, but I know from experience that might well change in the space of 48 hours.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Wow, what a beautiful autumn post! The leaves are amazing to look at – both on the tree and on the ground. I’m so glad you still have more photos to show us, because the colours are incredibly beautiful. It was worth the wait, wasn’t it?
