Unusually, it has been some days since I ventured out and I had to go back a bit to find photographs to post, recent images having been decidedly glum.

It has been days since I could see the driveway, owing to the 6 foot pile of ploughed snow blocking my view.
Last night brought three more inches of snow on top of which now falls freezing rain.
How many layers does this make?

The seed trays kept getting buried.
Which led to complaints.
.
So I brought them up to the porch, but the snow is so crisp now, I just toss seed out and the birds are pleased with this arrangement.

It’s so easy to scoop up.
.
“Keep it coming, missus!”
.
So many needy friends…
.
A delegation of sparrows came searching for the wheelbarrow.
.
“I can’t find it either!”
.
“It’s around here somewhere!”
.
You might guess the starlings and squirrels would know where to find it.
Squirrels are especially hungry because they need energy for mating – and fighting. Which explains their numerous wounds!

The suet feeders are busy too.
.
Delightful Carolina wrens.
We’d not seen them on the suet before.
A sweet, pert little bird.
With an impressive beak.

On cold mornings, doves huddle in the waiting room tree with their feet tucked up.

“I say, any sign of breakfast?”

Since I’m posting birds…
Red-tailed hawks I caught recently.
.
As I’ve been writing the bushes have become sheathed in ice.
.
“Branches getting slidey, missus!”
.
“Woops!”
.
“Not good enough, missus!”
“Can’t have my girls sliding about!”
.
I draw the line at drying the hedges.
Thank you, Carolyn, for the photographic story of your wildlife friends, and hopefully the last signs of winter. Good that no one goes hungry in this weather!

You are having quite a winter, and your pictures make it seem idyllic, but I expect, like us, you will be glad of warmer weather. We await another winter storm, then the long range forecast promises relief by the end of the month… I much prefer your winter weather to ours! Be careful, though, on ice! The cardinal in the iced bush is gorgeous.
Wow, you must have had a lot of snow if even the wheelbarrow had disappeared! I’m happy to read that you still take such lovely care of your visitors – some of them look a little bewildered. And for a small bird like the Carolina wrens, the little guy has quite a big beak. Haha, I think you’re doing more than enough – drying the hedges is definitely not part of the programme!
That’s too much snow for me. Your dedication to feeding your small friends is alway a joy to behold.
