.

After viewing the state of the Hudson River at Stillwater, we headed for the little park we’d discovered some months ago only to find it closed for the season.
And a bit wet.
.
Which was too bad, as it has a nice view, but we found a road along the riverbank.

.

People live all along the river.
As much as I love the idea, it seems incautious.
.
Coming upon more geese…

.

…that paddled swiftly away.

.
Continuing to Schuylerville.

.

Hard to believe we’d been in a snow squall less than an hour before.
.
But watch this cloud…

.

Who turned on the dimmer?
.
It had looked such a bonny cloud!

.

Seconds later, we were out the other side.
.
Clouds.
Until I was eight years old, I don’t think I ever paid a bit of attention to them.

.

Then I was taken on a very long ‘plane journey to SE Asia with very little to do but look out at clouds.
.
That was Cloud Appreciation 101.
Since then, I’ve never stopped looking at them.

.

From above, from below, from within.
Preferably, the former two. I like a view of the contours and to know that my pilot can see where he’s going.
.
Here, we’d come to our 5th river!
The Batten Kill, looking robust.

.

The Batten Kill has quite recovered.

.

Having taken in 5 rivers, we’d now been out for quite a while and it was well past lunch time.
.
Red lights alerted us to roadworks, so we followed avoidance procedures.

.

This doesn’t necessarily get us home any faster.
Just with less moaning.
.
But it was a lovely day for a detour.

.

Winter scenery.

.
With just the tiniest dusting of snow.

.

At this time of year, the ground is usually bare and brown.
The unusual growth, with light overlay of snow created a quite different colour.
.
I approve.

.

At home we’d barely seen two flakes.

.
Over the hill they’d had just this small amount.

.

Enough for a pretty picture without being a nuisance.
.
And here we were, back over the hill, coasting home.

.
Thank you, Carolyn, for the photo tour of five rivers, all very interesting, despite being winter!
Joanna
Always good to get back home, and I bet the cats were holding a protest march!
I think they’d given up!
Living near water was more appealing before the acceleration of climate change. I was keen to move close to the east coast of Norfolk before we chose Beetley as a compromise. Just as well, as the houses I was looking at in 2012 have since fallen off the cliffs into the North Sea.
Best wishes, Pete.
Oh my! Sometimes we are guided!
What a beautiful, serene place!
Hi Carolyn, not sure if my comment got through – WP!
Yes, it came through. I can’t figure out why there is a problem posting comments on WP posts for some people but not others. I have given up trying with one person I follow, emailing him direct instead.
I’ve given up trying also as it’s so time-consuming with WP support! It’s frustrating and I have better things to do with my time, like write!
