Catching up?

9th May 2024

.

Driving back through the village, I noticed that another storm was blowing up.

Heading to Greenwich I kept watch.

.

For an open view of the dramatic sky, we shot off down a lane we had not previously explored.

.

If possible, I avoid power lines.

.

But sometimes they offer perspective.

.

Going north, the storm was behind us.

.

But it was catching up fast.

.

Leaning across the driver, I captured jolly, puffy little clouds that appeared to be retreating.

.

Dandelions had not yet gone to seed.

What a difference day can make.

.

Nobody in sight!

.

Darkness threatened to engulf us, but up ahead a hill was bathed in sunlight.

.

Metaphors.

.

Metaphors seem to be everywhere.

.

Heavy traffic coming from Greenwich.

.

Since I came to live in the country, I see everything differently, as if my view had been blinkered until now.

.

Summer doesn’t suit me, but it’s nice to see the trees in their happy, leafy state again.

.

What’s around that dark bend?

.

No worries, it’s the corn field.

Sometimes we see wild turkeys here.

.

In fact, we saw some yesterday and they had babies, but there is no place to stop and if we did the birds would take fright.

.

We live in hope that someday we may see them on my property again. They used to show up every afternoon, taking a casual stroll down the driveway.

We don’t know what drove them away.

.

The storm was catching us up again.

.

Putting our shopping on hold…

.

…we went down to the Batten Kill…

(The correct way to name the river.)

.

…for some views.

It was icy when we stopped here last.

.

.

The sluice gate.

.

A few more pictures and I’ll let you go.

  1. Let me tell you, Carolyn, how much I love your photographic talent! Your attention to detail is extraordinary, and the results are magical, I can watch your sky, the fields, the odd barn or two, the endless roads going somewhere, and the plants, such as the dandelion that I love, the various creatures, everything in your posts is interesting and captivating, including your philosophical musings on the meaning of life! Thank you!

  2. Goslings are always so fluffy and cute. Do you go out in the car every day? There never seems to be a day when you just ‘stay in’. I only drive the 4 miles into town twice a week, and usually have to force myself to leave Beetley.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. I know it must seem that I am out all the time. When the seasons are changing which is often, I am always up for a drive and there are lots of places we like to see at different times of year. In between it’s just outings to the post office or Greenwich for shopping. Some days I don’t feel up to it and those are always the days Grant comes back and says he’s seen animals or found a dog to talk to!

  3. Glorious open roads — what a joy! And more lanes you haven’t discovered yet (I’m genuinely surprised by that). Beautiful reflections in the river and also of the bubbling water in the sluice gate. Another lovely drive!
