As we left Woodlands cemetery, rain began to spatter the windshield, but we are not easily discouraged. As we drove along route 22 we saw a flock of geese in a newly harvested field.
Last Fall, Canada Geese were absent from our sky. Over the years we had enjoyed hearing them pass over in Spring and Fall during their migration.
That first year, poor Willow was terrified by the unaccustomed honking and dived under the nearest piece of furniture, but she pays no attention now.
So, it was very noticeable in the Fall last year when they were absent.
.

Perhaps they simply changed their flight path.
This year they are more numerous than during any previous migration.
.

Wet weather brings down leaves, so we had to enjoy them while we could.
The new photo editor on my PC does a good job removing raindrops from windshields!
.

The plan was to go up to the art park in Salem, but Grant got a better idea, turning off the highway onto Colfax Road.
.

It goes up and down through fields and woods.
.

If anything, the rain highlighted the colours.
.

We have a wide variety of trees here.
.

Many types of bush and a great selection of wild plants (aka weeds).
.

In Summer they make up a mass of green, so when Fall arrives it is quite a surprise.
.

For a grey day this was pretty cheerful.
.

And for a short outing, this wasn’t bad.
.

Fall does not pause to await good weather, certainly not for us to get organised, but we took a day off that Tuesday (13th), before going on the road again, in the opposite direction.
For a variation on a theme.
.

Not that my camera had a day off, you understand…
.
The leaf colours are a joy, and lovely to behold. I have been hearing huge flocks of geese flying south this year, for at least three weeks now. The locals say this is a sign of early frosts, and a bad winter to come. So I bought 500 lites of heating oil this week to top up the tank. (Iran war prices, £1.10p a litre!) Even as I am typing this, I can hear geese honking. Flying in formation as it starts to get dark.
Best wishes, Pete.
Yes, they come over here just before dark too. Never seen as many before.
So why do some comments register and others not? I see no difference that could possibly cause some to need approval.
