A fan dance

The last day of March brought us a very special treat.

A week or so ago, I posted pictures of the wild turkeys that visited one afternoon. I was thrilled to see them, but Grant was not here, so every afternoon we kept watch hoping for a repeat and five days later…

“I think they’re here! Come see!”

So I dropped everything, grabbed the camera and went to look.

Little Man was fascinated by the Big Chicken.

“Wow! What they been feeding you?” he asked.

.

“I don’t know what happened to the rest of my pals.”

.

“I can’t wait all day. Gotta catch up with the Dads.”

.

The Dads were around the corner and I could swear they were waiting for us to appear in the window for their performance.

.

Each step seemed carefully choreographed.

.

Slow and very deliberate.

.

The nearby three seemed to feel superior, but up the hill, under the supervision of another haughty male, a training class was in session.

Meanwhile, Junior was still watching in vain for his missing mates.

.

“No, no, no. Ignore them. Watch me!”

.

The dancers went into a huddle to discuss their moves.

.

“Bah. Show-offs!”

.

They twirled and danced receiving only rude cat calls.

.

So they turned back to look at us, as if they knew we appreciated their performance.

.

How could one not?

.

To me it was an Elizabethan period piece.

.

With that, they took their show on the road, leaving stragglers…

This looked like a practice session: “How to steer the ship”:

Mature but not yet quite fully confident.

They loitered in the woods.

.

“Jus’ needs a bit more practice.”

.

Exhausted from all the dancing and practicing.

Next year’s performers perhaps?
