Beaky

4th February 2026 Beaky on the left.

As a follow-up to the story of Broken Beak – “Beaky”, I am happy to report that after escaping our notice for some ten days, it turned up on the porch on Wednesday morning.

(And again yesterday, Thursday)

Many bluejays visit our feeders and we can’t spend all day at the window, so the fact that we hadn’t seen a particular bird was not necessarily significant.

.

But we were delighted when we got confirmation of its continued survival.

Apart from its ruined mandible, Beaky appears in good form.

.

For the first time in days the water bowl had not frozen.

Beaky perched there taking long drinks.

.

The bird seemed to sense we were watching. I like to think it knows we care.

It is a fanciful thought, but there are some who believe it possible.

.

It is said that you get what you wish for. The people who say so have obviously received whatever it was they desired. I cannot make the claim myself.

Otherwise I would be one of those people who is able to communicate with other species.

Yes, I do believe some can. Unfortunately, far more who claim to are charlatans who take advantage of people desperate to talk to their pets, living and past.

If you’ve never heard of Anna Breytenbach, see what you think:

.

.

Just as some people are brilliant mathematicians, music composers or what have you, I believe that a few very special people have the ability to communicate with other species.

I suspect all humans have a vestige of an ability that was lost as we detached from Nature.

.

Beaky is able to pick up and consume whole peanuts.

While I can’t know their thoughts, I often feel a sort of emotional shift when an animal engages my eyes and I think they sense that I am not a threat.

It is not a matter of mind-reading but of feeling the vibrations you emit.

.

No, I don’t believe that you get what you wish for.

I believe the Universe sends what you need and sometimes that is the same thing.

Why it is that many must deal with undesirable situations is something one can only guess at, but how we cope with those challenges makes us who we are.

Maybe that is the point.

  1. Great to see Beaky is able to eat and drink and hang around with the other birds. I’m not sure about the lady being able to communicate so specifically with the black leopard, and watching the video reminded me of mediums who claim to speak to the dead. However, I do believe that some people have an ‘aura’ of some kind that attracts animals to them, and she certainly seems to have that in abundance.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Thank you, Carolyn, for the happy update on Beaky, your wonderful philosophical musing, and interesting video. I know that some people have a unique connection with animals, and it is genuine.

  3. What a simply wonderful post, Carolyn. Thank you for introducing me to Anna Breytenbach. She is certainly a unique lady, whether you believe in what she does or not. I have always talked to other species, and some seem to understand, and even respond. No one can deny that cats will greet you with affection if you only blink at them! Only today, I was talking to a pigeon whilst filling up the seed supplies. He refused to stop eating while I went about my tasks, and I was right alongside him for several minutes. I thanked him, and he thanked me!

  4. Thank you for sharing the video about ‘Spirit’ and the communication. Wonderful. I also believe that only a few people actually have the ability to communicate with other species.

  5. The universe is not a diety, but the One who created the universe is. Wise men and women still seek Him. I pray your eyes are opened to the truth before you leave this earth.

    1. I don’t regard the Universe as a deity. I believe there is a force behind it which people call an assortment of names. We are incapable of comprehending it. My belief is that we should respect all life forms and treat each other well.

      1. Jesus said wide is the road that leads to destruction and there are many on it, narrow is the way that leads to life and few will find it. Jesus said He is the way the truth and the life no one comes to the Father except through Him. Contrary to the belief that is prevelant today all roads do not lead to Heaven. The only destination after death is either Heaven for eternity or Hell for eternity. I told you the truth, what you do with it up to you and anyone else who reads this.

  6. Ah shame, poor Beacky – but it’s good to see that she still drops in (and can consume food). That story about the black leopard and Anna (and Jurg) … wow, that was amazing. How can one not believe that there can be some sort of communication between humans and animals? Thank you for sharing this story – it touched me deeply.
