Perfectly wonderful!

Bless the dear little darlings. They always know when you are at a low ebb and do their all to take your mind off your angst, whatever it happens to be.

After last year’s abomination of an election, Little Man took himself walk-a-about for three days and that certainly changed our focus.

.

One of Little Man’s favourite perches on top of a kitchen cupboard.

When I’m really downcast or sad, which isn’t often anymore, despite these challenging times, Willow picks up the vibes and comes to sit beside me. Although she is very much my cat, she has never been a cuddler. She just likes to be petted under her own terms, so when she approaches me like that, it’s special and yes, it cheers me up.

There’s another sort of distraction we can count on that is inevitably supplied in our lowest moments. Feline deposits – of various kinds – usually in particularly undesirable places, my bed for example.

.

Old cats like Sophia have occasional accidents, just like old people. Can’t be helped.

This sort of thing is especially effective if placed such that you manage to step in it without realising and distribute it widely about the house. Yes, that is a very efficient distraction!

.

Airlines have frequent fliers. We have frequent vomiters. Lily eats too fast!

This morning I discovered the latter kind at the foot of my bed, under my desk and various other places it had been tracked to. But it must have occurred yesterday, so it had dried up which makes it easier to clean.

A nurse told me yesterday: “The doctor doesn’t want you bending down.” Right.

.

Sophia loves Lily and longs for a snuggle buddy but the others are all standoffish.

Of course, if I told him, Grant would attend to these little messes and I do ask for help when I really need it, but in every way possible, I resist becoming dependent. Once you give up a little of your independence, it’s a slippery slope.

It is quite enough that I depend on Grant for any heavy lifting and almost all the driving.

.

Anyway, on such a beautiful, perfect day, even stepped-in cat vomit can’t get me down. Side-effects from yesterday’s surgery are temporary (hopefully), the main discomfort being the bandage.

For as long as I can remember, I have had a strong gag reflex and I cannot abide anything touching my throat, therefore having it tightly wrapped with a dressing is a little tiresome, but I only have to endure it for another 20 hours. No big deal.

Over the past few days, I have accumulated dozens of pictures of the sky – still no rain, by the way – unable to resist the constantly splendid and ever-changing images, however to give you something different, I also caught some new hummingbird shots.

.

This morning I noticed one perched on a twig, lit up by the rising Sun.

.

They don’t stay still for long and being so tiny, it’s not easy to focus on them.

.

I had thought this was a female ruby-throated hummingbird but in that second photo I noticed a few red feathers, so I’m guessing that this may be a juvenile male.

They are such neat, perfectly wonderful birds!

  1. You did well to capture the hummingbirds with your camera. As we don’t have them here, I am always delighted to see them. 20 hours will soon pass, and the tight bandage will be no more.
Take care, Carolyn. Thinking of you.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. You are right, Carolyn, the birds are perfectly wonderful! I do hope that you will be feeling perfectly wonderful in 20 hours, and there will be no need for more distractions. You can dream of the beloved time of the year, winter, which is coming soon. Also, the dreaded ruling of the orange one should be over soon enough.

  3. One of my cats tries to get me up, if he throws up during the night. He wants it addressed immediately! 😆
If I choose not to get up, I most certainly step in it, in the morning!
I do love my little darlings, though!
