Lake Paran

.

Yesterday was heavily overcast but it was not raining and we needed to go to Bennington, so we thought we should make it an outing.

Contemplating a map, I zeroed in on a lake because they are always worth looking at. The shores of many are private, but Lake Paran had a fishing access road.

So now we had a vague plan.

.

As we started out, patches of blue appeared through the cloud.

.

But heading to North Bennington, cloud cover was 100%.

.

With bright spots!

.

Dark clouds lend perspective to the countryside!

.

Under a clear sky it often looks flat, so I welcome clouds.

(And often post pictures just of them.)

.

Oh, excitement!

Another patch of blue!

.

There are various routes to Bennington.

.

Because we were going to North Bennington, we took one of the cross-country treks.

.

Which I always enjoy.

.

Soon we arrived at Lake Paran where a few people were fishing.

.

At the southeast corner, there is a spillway which of course drew my attention, as rushing water always will.

.

As recently as just a few years ago, I would have walked on this wall and considered it but did not protest at being restrained.

Poor eye coordination and balance issues a bad combination make. Old bones are brittle and I didn’t feel like swimming.

.

Why risk injury or drenching for this?

.

The spillway flows beneath a railroad bridge which is variously decorated.

.

.

The creek winds down through the woods toward another smaller lake.

Something to check out later on perhaps.

.

Railways, like rushing water must be photographed!

.

Grant noticed the opposite shore appeared to have more public access and we decided to check it out.

But first we went to pick up the item he needed and this was important because timing played an important role in what happened next….

Now don’t get too excited!

  2. Well, I am pretty excited! Always love your rambles through that beautiful part of the world. You have increased my joy exponentially by giving me an appreciation of clouds, which I always took for granted before reading your blog. Anticipating the next installment even more than usual!

  3. I love the patches of blue sky in your photos (for me, it always represents the promise of sunny weather – sooner or later). And isn’t it nice to discover a new lake – oh yes, and railway tracks are always worth a photo! I’ll wait patiently for the next post …
