Maybe it’s a result of all the rain we’ve been getting, but this year our trees are fuller than they have been in recent years.
.
The difference is very noticeable because this year the trees are blocking our view of the road.

.

This is how it was our first summer here six years ago, but the trees had become thinner each year since, so we are delighted at this development.
Everything else is growing like mad too which is a little less pleasing, perhaps, at least when I glance at flowerbeds overwhelmed by weeds.
There is nought I can do about it, so why fret?
It’s all a sign of life, after all.
.

A photograph of not much that somehow works for me.
There’s a story in it about parallels, I think.
.
It takes more than a grey day to put us off enjoying a ride in the country.

.

The terrain here is quite varied.
From this vantage point, we enjoy vast horizons while elsewhere we are surrounded by hills.
.
The mountain ranges of the West Coast were a major attraction to me. I am awed by mountains.
Yet returning east, I was stunned by the effect of re-discovering those open horizons.
Jet-lagged, stressed and exhausted as I was when we drove up from New York City after the overnight flight, I found myself whooping with joy as we broke into open country.
Grant had always said he felt hemmed in by the towering peaks and now I understood.

.

Not that I have fallen out of love with mountains.
Perhaps in an ideal situation I would live outside Jackson Hole, Wyoming where the skies are wide but with significant mountains in view.
The Grand Tetons.
It is one of my favourite places.
.

You see what I mean.
.
However, you enjoy something more when it is rationed.

.

This is another reason why I enjoy my current home which offers such variety within mere miles.
.
This damp day, we took a route that passes a very nice ranch which is always a treat to see.

.

There are lots of horses on our drives.

And I’ll always get a picture if I can!
.
Even if they don’t always work.

They are such gorgeous creatures.

.

You see what I mean by full trees?
.

.
We are not short of leafy lanes.

.

For each one I post there are a dozen more.
.
We’ve a few green meadows too and I’ll leave you in this one as I have a camera full of this morning to examine…

I have never lived anywhere with hills, let alone mountains. Now Norfolk, one of the flattest places in Britain. But I actually don’t mind that, as we get to see for miles on clear days, and the skies are always ‘big’.
Best wishes, Pete.
I’m off to Norfolk next week!
I hope you have a nice time here, Josie!
Have a good time Josie!
Thank you, Carolyn, for the beautiful pictures of gloriously green trees and lanes. I used to live as a child on top of the mountain, covered by a thick forest, and I loved my walk to school down the dried path, instead of the smooth but longer way along the asphalted road, spinning like a ribbon around the mountain. The farmhouse with horses is indeed beautiful to look at on your drive around the places, I like very much too!

Big beautiful green vistas to see – glorious!
No shortage but rather an abundance! Yay!
Beautiful pictures of your recent travels!
The horses, and the trees, are captivating!
Thank you for sharing.
