Not wanting to be snowbound without bird food, we went to fetch a supply…

The sky looked ominous at 9 am.

Last time I checked, predictions were for a mere 3 to 5inches of snow which is manageable, but you’d be a fool to trust forecasts even in these modern, technological times.
Tomorrow morning I have a 9 am appointment that I would like to keep, but we shall see…

In the meantime….RUINS!

Yesterday at 0725.
.
It was cleaning day and by the time I looked out again it was 1420.
The structure was expected to melt but I hadn’t imagined quite such a shattering!
In my mind I’d pictured candlesticks, but wax is a very different substance!

This sort of effect requires just the right combination of factors that clearly were absent yesterday as the temperature climbed steadily.
Without even a chill wind.
.
Perhaps I should have built out instead of up.
But this was never expected to last.
.
Bit by bit I picked through the wreckage, discarding much that would not be salvageable.
The rest I placed with a view to using as a foundation…
One blue/green pillar remained, no doubt because it consisted of sturdier ice blocks.
For the rest of the day I kept watch, expecting it too would fall, but by dark it had not.

This morning it was still standing, though it had lost most of its colour overnight.
.
The ruins looked as if dusted with icing sugar.
Like Turkish delight.
.
One block still stands out brightly.
.
Before the great collapse, I had decided that the best way to show the ice structure would be by video and if you watch, you can see just how fragile it was.
And why it all came tumbling down!
But if I do rebuild, I still won’t be aiming for permanence.
No new blocks formed last night and who knows what tomorrow will bring.

You’re right, while watching your video I’m actually amazed that your ice sculptures stood for so long before they turned into ruins! I love your background “music” – for me it fits perfectly with your ice sculptures.
