For the most part, abandoning Amazon is no big problem, but it’s where I buy books, which are important to me.
Recently I had been thinking of going to Kindle which I suppose Bezos doesn’t profit much from.
We have a great local bookshop which I have supported for some time, even before I moved to Cambridge, but…
New books seem such an indulgence.

The viburnum is still holding on.
So vibrant in the afternoon sun.

There are still patches of colour as we drive around, but chez-nous we have adopted our winter complexion.
But for that intensely red bush.

On Tuesday night a “sim failure” notice popped up on my phone. Last time this happened I got no such warning and spent some hours trying to sort it out.
In the end we had to find a Boost Mobile shop, they being our phone company and a new sim was supplied.

So, this time I knew the problem and where to go.
Furthermore, yesterday we were already going to Clifton Park which is halfway there.
Handy timing.

The Boost shop is in Cohoes, a few miles further down the Hudson.
Cohoes grew out of the importance of textile manufacturing in the 19th century.

What I had learned since our first trip to Cohoes, is that it has a waterfall, so we made a point of going to view it.
.
While it is hardly Victoria Falls, it is still a waterfall and I am a great fan of such.
.
It would be worth seeing when the river is in flood.

I tried to imagine going to sleep at night, to such a magnificent sound.

This is the Mohawk River which flows into the Hudson…

…just around that bend.

As we were leaving, Grant caught sight of pigeons on some wires.
I “shot” them through a chain link fence.

There seemed to be one of every kind, preening, sleeping, chatting.
.
Making our way over from Clifton Park, we’d noticed another fall, so on our way back we stopped.

It turned out to be Crescent Dam which generates hydroelectric power.

Seagulls cooling their feet.

Nearby a cormorant preened its chest.

Mimicking a bald eagle?

We didn’t need to go back to Clifton Park, so we by-passed it, driving through Half Moon.

Soon we were back in Mechanicville, where Grant noticed more birds standing around, this time in the Hudson.

He went to collect more acorns.

Peter is right about World of Books. Good prices on second-hand books (and DVDs, Maps, etc) and they have never let me down. I enjoyed both water features. I’m sure if you lived near the waterfall you would soon become used to the sound.

Wow, the waterfall photos are beautiful (the sound of water must be one of my favourite sounds). Your reflection photos also caught my eye. I buy most of my books from a second-hand bookstore locally and new books through Kindle. But I’ve also heard of World of Books — so, that might be a good option too.
