Thank you everyone for your kind words which I will pass along to Grant. This loss is particularly hard for him because Tinks was devoted to him. She followed him everywhere. She was happiest when in his arms.
Tinkerbelle came from a neighbour who was drug-addicted. I think he had good intentions, adopting Tinks from a shelter, but he did not know how to care for a cat and Tinkerbelle was shut out on his porch in all kinds of weather. Grant noticed and asked if he could have her. She had a bell on her collar which is how she got her name.
.
As much as Tinkerbelle loved Grant, she disliked me and almost everyone else. When I tried to pet her she swatted at me and tried to bite, so mostly I didn’t try. I just loved her from afar.
Then, this past year there was a change in Tinkerbelle’s attitude. I found her sometimes sleeping on my bed during the day and she looked at me differently.

.

Tinkerbelle was aging and had begun to lose weight and I did wonder if the change in her temperament was a sign of the approaching end.
I dismissed it as just another of my fancies but I have seenthis change in a cat’s behaviour before.
.
Cisco came to me as a very small kitten that grew into a huge blue-eyed, flame-coloured boy. He was terrified of strangers to the point that people decided he was a figment of my imagination. No one ever saw him, even people who visited often.
Then, in the year before he died, he was no longer afraid. Suddenly he was happy to greet anyone who stopped by.
My feeling is that animals sense that their lives are drawing to an end. Sometimes they go off to die by themselves.

.

Tinkerbelle would not have done that. She died with Grant by her side, taking a piece of his heart with her.
By now you’d think there would be nothing left of our hearts but it seems the part that loves re-generates itself.
.
Little Man came to us for a reason, I think.
He has become a very loving little creature.
Cuddling him and playing with him is so comforting.
Tinkerbelle is sleeping now up on the hill with Lucy, Penny and Toby. Patches died when the ground was frozen so we have her ashes, along with many others.
One day we will all be scattered together.
Till then, my darlings, God bless.

There’s a special place in the next world for people like you and Grant who love so sincerely and take such wonderful
care of your darlings. Tinks was a strikingly beautiful girl and so very fortunate to have lived her life in the loving care of you and Grant. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Sending you hugs, Deb❤️🐾
