Waddling

.

Peanut the fox is here every morning these days, looking for…peanuts.

.

She often has another fox with her, as she did this morning, but that one is more timid and it ran off up the road while Peanut came down the drive.

She often walks up the path toward the house and around to the patio.

.

It is not unusual to see a deer out there, such as Uni, so-called because of the horn on her forehead.

Uni has grown quite used to us.

As long as we don’t approach her, she continues to graze or eat apples as in this photo.

.

Watching Peanut this morning, we perceived an elegant pair of legs emerging from behind the pine and thought it must be Uni, but hang-on!

It had antlers. A buck. Now that is unusual.

We don’t see bucks all that often and never in the driveway.

.

“See that old woman in there?”

“She’s the one that comes out with nuts.”

.

This year’s crow fledglings were being taught the ropes.

.

“Walk this way children!”

.

“A little decorum if you please!”

.

“It’s altogether too chaotic, Mildred.”

.

“Let’s go this way.”
“And have a word with management.”

.

The pigeons knocked on the door to file their complaint as the crows fought and argued over breakfast.

.

One boldly tackled the stag.

.

“Did you see this?!”

“The cheek of some birds!”

.

Others watched from a safe distance:

“Not much left now, is there?”

“No point, really?”

.

Finally the stag moved on to check out the neighbour’s garden, down the hill.

.

Which the pigeons took as their cue…

To waddle back for leftovers.

.

Soon I waddled back that way myself, anxious to check on the roses of Sharon which would have been a tasty snack for the stag.

Almost every previous year, these bushes have been trimmed long before they could bloom.

.

.

Luckily, all was well and I found that a fourth bush has bloomed.

I whispered a word of encouragement to the 5th, smallest bush. It has more shade than the others but it has many buds and I’m sure will have something to display very soon.

Very enjoyable, and entertaining, to see them, close up. 😍
    Thank you for sharing, ❤️

  2. Thank you, Carolyn, for the stunning pictures from your Carolyn in Wonderland world! I love in particular the waddling birds close up with one leg in the air! Brilliant!

  3. Deer, buck, fox and birds … it’s all wonderfully chaotic, I’d say! And happy too that the roses of Sharon is still blooming (and unseen by the deer – maybe the neighbours’ flowers are bigger).
