Disturbances

3rd May 2024

.

Returning from Vermont the other day, the driver took evasive action to avoid having a truck behind us.

As much as he complains about putt-putts, he gets equally annoyed at being followed because we so often see something we want to slow down or stop for.

.

So we turned off and pulled over by a pond where a Canada goose eyed us balefully.

.

Inadvertently we’d come between him and his family.

.

Not wanting to disturb them, I took a couple of imperfect shots and we carried on.

.

It wasn’t where we’d meant to turn but it led us in the right direction.

.

In consequence, we were just in time to catch sight of guinea fowl clucking off down an embankment.

They weren’t interested in being photographed by tourists!

.

Now we were back on the up and down road.

It’s not good to drive this road if you are feeling queasy.

.

But it’s worth the view.

.

While it’s at no great altitude, you feel you can reach out and touch the sky.

.

How quickly the landscape has changed.

A favourite poem comes to mind

.

We came to an interesting waterway.

3 steams came together to create a sort of swirling aquatic round-a-bout.

.

We were able to stop, so I got out to get a closer look, though I am always wary of ticks.

Sometimes I say to myself that I can’t forever live in fear of the wretched things.

Then I remember tick fever.

.

.

At times, car trips are frustrating…

“Ooh look, a horse!”

But before the subject lifted its head…

.

“Geese!”

In the opposite direction and impossibly close.

.

“Don’t you come near my children!!!”

.

“Come kids. Give your mum a break.”

.

Much as we would like to, it doesn’t seem polite to approach other people’s farm animals and we would certainly not want to disturb them, so I capture what I can.

But nobody minds how many pictures I take of the endless sky.

  1. The ducklings are so cute and there are your guinea fowls too! So, it was worth taking an unplanned road. Oh yes, and it’s great to read a poem that’s so simple and beautiful — thanks for sharing that.
