Show off

0611/29th April 2024

Monday morning saw me dancing outside in my nightshirt and bare feet.

Recently we’ve had no overnight frost so my toes had no cause to complain.

.

Spring is progressing rapidly, though our days are blessedly cool, for now.

Warnings to expect a blistering summer make me appreciate every additional cool day.

.

When he stops by for a snack, the boy now declines to come indoors.

It was all very well when he needed to warm himself in front of the fire but Nibbs does not like feeling confined.

This he conveys hissing and growling like a feral cat, even as the door opens at his demand.

We don’t take it personally.

.

“Thanks. ‘Bye!”

.

Another breakfast visitor drew attention to our disgraceful windows.

Racoon prints without and nose marks within.

It shamed me into making an effort, but window cleaning may be the most frustrating chore I know of.

No matter the means I employ, there always remains a smear which you notice only when you’ve gone back in, or back out, several times.

.

“I’s can see you better now missus.”

A cloudy day gave the appearance of improvement, if you didn’t look too close.

“So, can I get more nuts?”

.

Male cowbirds are showing off…

.

to each other…

“You do know I’m not a girl, right?”

Winding up for the grand finale…

deep concentration
focussing
the big moment

.

“Oh yeah, mate, very impressive.”

“The bit where you fall off your twig.”

.

While at/in the seed tray…

.

“Zoomer you going to pop!”

.

“Did you just take my picture?”
“He didn’t have time to strike a pose.”

Mourning doves seem so laid back. I think they are lovely.

A goldfinch sang its happy tune working up an appetite for breakfast.

.

Sometimes everyone manages to share.

.

Blessed moments of peace.

  1. Thank you, Carolyn, for the most delightful post, full of interesting things such as the spectacular study of the sky, and all the creatures in your world who surprisingly share the food side by side!
I was so glad to read that you are happy, and even dancing outside! Wonderful!

  2. Dancing early in the morning – outside and in your night shirt? It must have been a really beautiful morning to be able to be that brave! Although you’re telling us that your window is dirty, it actually looks like a work of art (good excuse not to clean them). I had a good laugh at the cowbirds’ conversation – imagine if those are really the words between them! And I like your one photo where there are three different animals in one shot – lovely!
