It simply won’t do. I left you stranded in Greenwich, with every intention of bringing you “home” yesterday.
But I got hijacked.
More on that tomorrow.
If it doesn’t happen again.
.
Not long after I captured these images they disappeared forever into some cosmic archive.

.

People pay fortunes for things that are rare. If I was wealthy, I most likely would myself.
What I am able to do is appreciate what Nature provides every day.
Beautiful images have long been my weakness. I can get lost in what pleases me visually.
.
That is why I take so many photographs, I suppose.
Maybe an attempt to capture brief moments in time.
Perhaps that’s the truth of it. Wanting to hold on to something that has gone forever.

.

.
In the field there, you can see the curved tracks of a farm vehicle. Tracks are something else I like to capture.
It’s sort of like footprints, which are evidence of a person or an animal’s passing by.
Why should I care?

.

Every morning, when there is snow, I like to see what animals have been around.
It’s not just the wanting to know.
It’s being able to imagine the presence that was.
Again, it’s clutching at a past moment.
.
Does any of that make sense?
More and more, I am coming to believe that human beings do not.
Make sense.

.

An excuse I make for myself?!

.
For once we were able to pause by a babbling brook.
Maybe it’s because I am an Aquarian that I am excited by water.
All bodies of water, but moving water in particular.

.

My boarding school in Cambodia was a stone’s throw from the sea and at night I was lulled to sleep by the sound of waves rushing up the beach.
That sound was a sort of refuge.
Alone in my bed at night, I was safe from everything I didn’t like about the place and the shush of the waves soothed me.
.
My previous house was built on the side of a steep hill which made me immediately think water-feature!
It would no doubt have been a fine idea if I had approached it more sensibly, but a dear friend was coming to visit and I very much wanted to have the feature in place for his arrival.

.

Research and shopping around would have been helpful. I knew this, of course.
But I ended up employing a charlatan and got a waterfall that became a problem. One of many problems that came with that house.
But it was the perfect house for fostering cats, so I do not regret it.
In any case, regret is a pointless emotion.
.
Mistakes after all, are lessons.
Just like lessons in school, some of them have to be taught twice or even repeatedly.
Depending on how thick-headed or stubborn we are!

.

Many would say that buying a house on the internet was ill-advised.

.
Confession: I didn’t not think so myself.
Which is why I kept the details of my activities at that time mostly to myself.
It was risky, but I saw no other way of accomplishing the move which I had to make.

.

So, is my internet house perfect?
In most of the important ways it is and in some ways it is better than I could have imagined.
For example I had no idea how much entertainment I would derive from standing at the kitchen window.
Or that I would have a front row seat to an often stunning sunrise.
That I would find such pleasure in watching an ever-changing sky.
.
The house itself has some deficiencies.
Doesn’t everything?
Nothing we haven’t been able to overcome.
Or I should say that Grant has!

.

The three-quarters pink house was looking nice against the snow.
Three quarters because the front is blue.
.
A favourite viewpoint.

.

All the lines in this image are at different angles so I’ve assumed that the frozen lake is true!
.
Hold tight. We’re nearly home!

.

A few more corners…

.
Fir trees lined up like chorus girls?

.

I like a photograph that offers a hint of something in the distance…
.
The hill there, in the middle?
That’s the hill I see from my window.
Where “hill house” sits.

.

The Wedding Barn.

.
The other side of the hill, home.

.
Profound apologies for the delay!
Thanks for getting us home safely. No matter where you’ve been it’s always nice to get home.
I think you are right and wrong at the same time. Individual human beings can make sense, but the human race makes no sense at all. We seem intent on self destruction and are heading more rapidly that way. No doubt several species will survive – cats amongst them!
Yes, I hope there will be survivors after we are done!
Thank you, Carolyn, for your today’s reflections, and for mentioning that you are a water girl. I am an Aquarius too, and my birthday will be on the 12 of February.
I like to think that we get on so well because we share certain similarities .
Joanna
My parents got married on 12th Feb. My birthday is the 16th. I was supposed to be born on 29th Feb but I arrived early and have continued doing so through nearly 76 years!
LOL! My b-day is on Feb. 21, so I am a Pisces, another lover of water. But, I was a ten month baby, arriving with a full head of black curls & long nails! I have been late all my life and my sister says I will be late for my own funeral!
One of the only things I like about snow is finding lots of different tracks of animals and birds then trying to guess what made them. I have only really been able to do that since moving away from London, where the tracks were made by either feral pigeons or urban foxes.
Best wishes, Pete.
I’ve never thought about buying a house on the internet … is it brave or stupid? Well, in your case, it worked out perfectly! I’m sure I’ve driven this road virtually with you before, but it looks different every time! How beautiful the snowy landscape is – for me it’s picture perfect!
I think that the biggest mistake is in believing that human beings are meant to make sense.
