Man in a big hurry. 2nd October 2023

Monday was such a gorgeous day.

After visiting geese at the locks, we meandered about, nowhere in particular.

The Fedex man, however, was in a tearing hurry to get wherever he was going!

.

What was that about?!

.

Those ubiquitous power lines.

.

They are a part of almost any scene and occasionally, they add definition to a photograph.

Another item ever present is more of an eyesore and I try to remove them.

.

Rubbish bins!

.

The road became a winding tunnel…

.

There are hundreds of miles like this

.

Filtered sunlight.

.

Traversing these tunnels, – magical

.

This is a land of mixed fortunes

You know you’ve reached an up-market area when the road surface improves.

.

The water feature I once had was nothing like this! Barely a feature at all.

.

It didn’t have geese, but we did have a neat visitor a couple of times.

Awful photo of the quail on my patio.

.

Quail wasn’t a bird you saw every day, so this was a treat. It’s funny though, as I packed up for my move, I said how nice it would be if the quail came to say goodbye.

Not many minutes later, I glanced out a front window and saw a quail walking sedately down the centre of the road.

True story. I did not dream it.

.

There are pheasants here, and guineafowl, but we seldom see them.

Pheasants always represented good luck for me. Each time I spotted one, situations worked out that could just as easily have gone badly wrong.

From such experiences, superstitions are born, no doubt.

.

More brown

.

At least the barn is red.

But we came to a sight of loveliness…

.

…at least the way I saw it.

.

Last Fall was vibrant with colour

.

As long as I live, I’ll not forget last Fall.

This year feels softer, but I don’t know how to make sense of why it should.

Perhaps the absence of the dramatic contrasts we had last year.

.

“Well it’s no good asking me!”

.

Light, perspective…

…frame of mind…

For whatever reason, this feels gentle.

No fanfare of farewell for 2023.

.

Because I want to capture every instant of such days,

.

I take so many pictures!

.

To share our brown Fall.

.

And a view of those stunning trees:

on Main Street, Greenwich!

.

We’d not intended to finish up there, but as we did, we took an alternate way home.

An opportunity to see those lines that fascinate me.

.

Sunlight found this single branch of golden leaves and made it into fire.

.

Here I felt the sunlit trees were calling me on, shouting encouragement:

“Come on! You can make it!”

Such ideas come to this tired old brain.

.

Ducks clucked in this pond but they did not get within camera view.

However there were other ducks, the following day and they were a surprise.

(You may see them…soon.)

.

A favourite nearby view.

.

Trees are shedding fast and we have not had the big storm, yet.

Philippe seems to be heading for New Brunswick but we are promised rain on Saturday and that will change our scenery quite a bit.

.

.

Almost home. My house behind trees on the left.

Approaching the turn-off to our road.

Sometimes we see a heron or ducks at the pond here, but not that day.

.

We wave to Buddy as we drive by.

We don’t know his friend’s names.

Nor even the species of the little one but we think it’s a sheep. Or a goat….

  1. Wow, I love those tree lined roads. You’re right, you just can’t get enough of the beauty of Nature! Pheasants and guinea fowl visit the “green strip” behind our house in Langebaan every day – my mother feeds them in the morning and afternoon. When we are there, I can sometimes watch them for hours as they scrub and sometimes they even come to show their little ones. Love your brown Fall.

  2. We have many similar tree-lined roads around Beetley, but not such a feast of Autumn colours, sadly.
I have a lot of sympathy for the parcel delivery drivers. They have to keep to timed deliveries, and are tracked all the time too. Then they have an incredible amount of parcels to deliver in one shift. I wouldn’t want to do that job for twice what they get paid.
    Best wishes, Pete.
