Bye bye 2020

Dawn, 30th December

Dark clouds moved in early, yesterday.

Dissipating the loveliness of dawn and bringing sleet and freezing rain late last night.

.

It was as if that cloud swallowed up the sun.

Leaving us with a grey old day.

Not such a pretty picture for New Year’s Eve.

A bump of snow remains from the big storm

My ice castle was being re-built.

Using the frozen contents of our bird baths.

But now it’s all going to get washed away again, by the torrents of rain we are promised for New Year’s Day. I’m not sure what it is about ice that fascinates me. Maybe it’s the way the crystals catch the light. It was a good experiment for my different cameras, a Lumix, a Nikon Coolpix and my beat-up cell phone. Fact is, there isn’t much difference.

So should I be looking for a better cellphone instead of a new camera? That’s a daunting thought. Really, I should just make do with what I have.

.

Of course, I could put the cats on half-rations…

“Excuse me……..what?”

“Mother, you wouldn’t!”

Just look at these beasts.

They know exactly where the treats are kept.

They just queue up. And if we are not prompt, they send a posse to get us.

We get poked and provoked until we give in.

Who’s in charge around here?

No-one. Right.

.

If I can’t short-ration the cats, swarm can do with less…

That won’t work. They’ll all be staring at me again.

Oh. Well, maybe I don’t want a new camera after all.

It’s just these wretched birds. I really do want to get some better pictures of them!

Anyway, the camera I want is not available at present, so there’s a clue.

There are so much more important things in life. I am so grateful for what I have, for being where I am and for having survived a really rather rotten year. I honestly can’t say it was that bad for me.

But I sincerely hope that 2021 will be very much better for so many others.

With best wishes for a Happy New Year, from Carolyn, Grant, Lily, Lucy, Toby, Willow, Blackie, Sasha, Tinkerbell, Sophia, Patches, Penny and Sikkim.

  1. Happy new year to all of you! I am happy to have become a follower of your blog this year, having been “referred”, so to speak, by Jon Katz.
Love your writings, love your photos.
Hope 2021 is a healthy one for you. It seems like it’s already one filled with much happiness. How could it not be with all those kitties, and of course, Grant.

  2. Happy New Year to you, Grant and all the kitty clan. 2021 has to be better than 2020, at least we can hope that it will be.
