Last Thursday provided a few more photographs including the above which was one of the first trees to blush, a startling deep scarlet.

It’s not just colour that appeals to me in Fall. I love the shapes and patterns that form as the leaves begin to thin out.
.

Early on, honeylocust trees embraced Autumn by turning a radiant yellow…

…laying down a golden carpet at their feet.
.

Deviating from what had become a regular route, the Sarle’s Ferry road proved to be a good choice as it led us across more colourful terrain.
.

If the Fall of 2022 was gloriously gold, early appearances suggest that this year may be magnificently red.
.

Such a contrast to the greyness of the day.
.

Here too, bright yellow asserted itself, as if in competition.
.

Over the next hill, the countryside was more subdued, only now getting around to the idea of changing seasons and well, it is only the end of September.

Fall is a wonderful time of year but it is also very nostalgic, the fading of life, the departure of Summer visitors, the approaching end of another year.
When I see the abandoned hummingbird feeder swaying in a breeze, beyond the kitchen window, I get a lump in my throat, silly old fool.
Goodbyes have always been hard for me. You would think those that are final would be the hardest, but for me it is those goodbyes you don’t know will be final. The cat that went out never to return, the boyfriend who left without explanation to be seen no more.
The latter situations leave you hanging, unable to grieve or understand. Not knowing is hell.
No, I don’t like goodbyes and the older you get, the more there are.
.
Goodbyes are twice as hard as you get older, I can vouch for that. Who knows if we will see another summer at our age? Or see some snow before we go for good? Sit on a beach and feel warm sand underneath us? One of the (very) few things I am jealous about you living in America (besides hummingbirds) is the wonderful autumn colours of your trees there. We don’t have anything to compare with that over here. But I will gladly sacrifice that for not living in gun-crazy land, ruled by Emperor Trump.
Best wishes, Pete. x
Red and yellow … spectacular colours for autumn! I dare to say, autumn is the most beautiful in your part of the world! You’re right, goodbyes are not a favourite of mine. But we can’t hold on to what was, right? There are beautiful and maybe new things waiting for us in the new seasons to come!
Beautiful fall photos, with a touch of sadness. ❤️
