Returning from our quick outing, we saw our neighbours waving from their porch, so Grant turned into the driveway to go say hello.
And went to view their pretty garden..

Our neighbours moved here a year or so after we did and Grant helped Ed to lay out the garden and plant many of the flowers. Grant has a talent for creating but is not much interested in maintaining a garden, which is why ours is now wild – sort of laissez-faire.

Much of our neighbour’s garden is given to a large variety of day lilies.

Some of the differences are very subtle.

This garden reminds me of the one my mother had in Barbados.
.
She grew many more varieties of hibiscus than I even knew existed.
.
Until my parents lived in the West Indies, I’d only ever seen “ordinary” red hibiscus and until I came to live Upstate New York, I was only aware of white lilies (and Calla lilies).

Just as my dad painted pictures of all my mother’s hibiscus, I suspect he would have painted these gorgeous lilies as well.

There were more. These are just the ones I got to.

Hopeless gardener though I may be, I do love flowers.
They are just better off in someone else’s care.

I feel the same as you. Look at someone else’s flowers, and leave the gardening to them. I did once plant a lot of Hostas in a patio garden in London, but they were eaten by snails while I was on a week of night shifts.

I’m a bit of a gardener these days and love to have flowers in the garden.
Of course, a well-maintained garden is beautiful, but I have to say I like a wild garden (‘laissez-faire’ – never heard the word before, but I’ll remember it for a future conversation 😉). Wow, so many different coloured lilies – if I had to choose, it would be the light-yellow ones … but actually, they’re all equally beautiful.
Do you still have some of your Dad’s paintings?
Yes, I have many of the hibiscus as well as a few others. My favourites are of the budgies and thegarden in Barbados.
How nice that you still have some. Frequent moving tends to lose stuff.
Barbados must have been a pleasant stay. (I like islands!)
