Suncatcher

“A suncatcher or light catcher is a small reflective, refractive, and/or iridescent ornament.”

A hillside that catches the light of dusk and dawn.

Those particular trees are a light magnet.

.

I like sun-catchers!

We have had so many cats depart that we ran out of space for memorial chimes, so then I began collecting memorial sun-catchers, to add to several I already had.

The delightful sight of sunlight through leaves reminds me of stained glass windows.

.

It’s not just trees and glass that catch the light.

The side of a barn, a road surface, a pond…all asking to be photographed.

We continued up over a hill and ground to a stop for another sight:

.

Wild turkeys crossing the road.

Those are all girl turkeys. Wondering if there were more…

.

We saw the boys, practicing their moves in a field.

.

Maybe it’s what the girls were running away from?

.

“It’s no good lads. They’re not even looking!”

Girl turkeys seem very hard to please and the boys always so disappointed after putting on such wonderful displays.

Two of the more confident Toms pursued the ladies but soon returned, downcast, rejected by the girls across the road where they were busy feeding on some delicious thing they had found, quite unimpressed by all the fuss.

Altogether, there must have been 50 birds, far more than we have ever seen together before. There has been no sign of “our” turkeys since last Fall, but we hope they will remember that they found a meal when they visited.

.

Though well below freezing, this was a lovely morning and as not many are promised lately, we thought we should take advantage.

So we went on a short drive through the countryside that is gradually coming alive.

Instead of avoiding snow and ice, Grant had to look out for fallen branches, brought down by vicious recent winds.

.

When we drew to a stop here, the rear wheels made the sort of sound you prefer not to hear coming from beneath your car. I thought perhaps one of the branch bits had lodged itself, but Grant said not and the noise repeated each time we slowed down.

No alarm lights or other problems occurred, but clearly something was not right, so I was charged with making a phone call to the dealer and when I eventually got through to a live person, was told they could fit us in at the end of next week.

That would have to do, but by the time we got home, the noise had stopped, so perhaps my theory was right after all.

We’ll find out when we go to Queensbury tomorrow.

  1. Thank you, Carolyn, for the entertaining video, a sure sign that spring is here! I am happy because we are having excellent weather and high temperatures. I also have a few sun-catches!

  2. I had now such a good laugh at your story about the showing off of the male turkeys and the girls running away 😁. Berto is always very suspicious about any noise coming from our ‘bakkie’ and he won’t rest until he has found out what it is. I hope it’s nothing serious with your car!
