Looking up from my morning geography puzzle on Thursday, I gasped at the sight of a sky suddenly transformed as the Sun crept toward the horizon.
.

It’s been a while since we had one this lurid.
It was not the “shepherd’s warning” of the old saying, at least not until next day which brought precipitation – of various sorts.
Having emerged from a long period of below-freezing temperatures, we are back to the ups and downs that are more problematic. During the day puddles form on the walkways as snow melts, then they freeze and become quite treacherous. Everywhere you go you have to be on the lookout but a moments inattention can lead to disaster.
If there’s a single patch of ice in Cambridge, my foot will find it.
The only drawback of Winter. That and ruinous heating bills.
.

Scrolling through my photos in search of something else I came upon a sunrise from a few days ago. Not as stunning as Thursday’s, but deserving of admiration, I think.
.

Here’s how it progressed.
.

Soon it will be light early enough that I shall have to do my rounds before breakfast.
Call me daft but it feels wrong to eat while my outdoor friends wait!
And it won’t be long till the Sun rises before me, which leaves me feeling deprived.
.

Set an alarm? I’ve thought of it, but it makes for a very long day and a rather short night.
.

If a good dawn was guaranteed…but it’s not.
.

Such a shame though, for such sights to go unappreciated.
.

Which is why, when they occur, I activate the camera.
.

But I don’t always get around to sharing them till eventually you get a post of nothing but.
.

Still, it gives you an idea of the variety!
.

Sometimes there’s no more to see than a bank of clouds.
But the vista may still have merit.
.

Before the Sun added its rosy tint, January 16th already deserved a photograph.
In my opinion.
.

Wednesday’s mild morning produced snow mist.
A lovely pastel variation of dawn.
.

Enough for now!
.
Goodness, Carolyn, what spectacular photos of the sky early in the morning! You are lucky to have this happen. Although you wonderfully present even clouds. A big thank you!
Joanna
I worked with a photographer who had Smithsonian creds who told me one evening he’d once sworn off taking west Texas sunset pictures. I asked him what happened. “The sun went down again.”
Thank you for getting up so early in my stead. I’m not sure that I’ll be joining you!
