Nature provides

0730/3rd February 2026

For days now, every morning has been bitter. At -2F/-19C, Tuesday was not the coldest, but any time you see frost formations on the heated water bowls, it certainly feels extra chilly!

.

My outdoor ventures are kept short when it’s this cold but on Tuesday Grant had to go off at an obscenely early hour for a distant appointment and I didn’t want the wildlife to be disappointed, so I did his rounds as well as my very short one.

.

Which is when I saw frost on the water bowls.

.

Seeing frost led me to check out the garage windows.

.

If you look online, you will find hundreds of thousands of frost patterns.

.

Our garage alone could supply many hundred.

.

They fascinate me and I often photograph them, but my inventory was becoming too vast, so I haven’t taken as many lately.

.

Also my fingers freeze.

.

However, Little Red encouraged me to take pictures of the hoar frost on his perches.

.

It was especially thick that morning.

When I am unable to come up with a topic for my post, Nature always provides.

  1. And you got your post, Carolyn, as nature always provides something fascinating and beautiful to admire. I do hope that spring is just around the corner, and you will have much more to photograph and write about.

  2. The frost and ice crystal photos are truly lovely, Carolyn. We have temperatures of +7C/45F today, and some rain. But it feels much colder outside because of a cold wind. Nothing as bad as you are experiencing of course.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Ha, when I just hear that it’s cold, I’m already freezing. So, if I have to see frost formations, you’re not getting me out of the house! Yet it’s so beautiful – especially those by the garage – and I’m so happy you show us what it looks like. Isn’t it amazing how no two are the same!!
