Between events

To break away from snow for a moment, here are some pictures I got between events.

Returning from the village one day, bright sunshine encouraged us to shoot off at a tangent which eventually saw us back at the Georgi where the hydrangeas looked attractive in their winter attire.

Hydrangeas are great value as there is never a time when they don’t look good.

It was the sort of winter day when it feels good to be outside, despite a chill wind.

At least it does to me!

It’s invigorating!

Admittedly, it is less appealing when you haven’t the option of retreating to a warm house and a hot drink. During our Antarctic cruise we were welcomed back aboard from excursions on the ice with mugs of hot spiced wine which went down a treat!

We “went swimming ” in the Antarctic, but it wasn’t nearly as bold as it sounds as we were in a submerged volcano, so if you were careful you could find a pool where the water was a pleasant blend of boiling and freezing! Although no-one got scalded or frozen, I remember that if you chose to you could scoop boiled krill out of the water!

The air temperature was cold but not frigid and we were whisked back to the ship.

Winter offers a whole other set of images.

Perhaps not everyone’s choice, but beauty is where you find it.

Here strong sunlight brought up the colour of dead leaves and emphasised the shape of the trees limbs. If I was a fabric designer, I’d use it as a print.

When Winter draws to a close I always think what a shame that the trees will soon be covered in leaves, but as the buds develop I become enthusiastic for new growth.

So goes the cycle!

Winter is not quite done with us! First snowflakes arrived @ 0915…

Taking the scenic route from Greenwich on another bright day, I enjoyed seeing early light filtering through the woods to pick out remaining patches of snow.

When I run out of other subjects, there is always the sky.

.

In endless variations.

.

Some days it’s hard to tear myself away.

.

I like to watch the clouds morph as the Sun rises.

.

From one day to the next, we never know what to expect…

.

Sometimes it’s quite dramatic.

And often I catch a bird in flight.
