Most of last Thursday morning was taken up by an appointment with my optometrist, a very thorough and nice lady who spends considerable time fine-tuning the complicated prescription for my eye glasses. She also examines the eyes, of course. They are basically healthy but constantly dry despite twice-daily drops, so it was suggested that I add more drops available by prescription.
As of Monday there was no sign of said prescription being available so I called the pharmacy to check and was told that my insurance does not cover it, so they were waiting for the doctor to order something different. I inquired the price, should I decide to pay cash.
Nine hundred dollars. For eye drops.
.

No, I shall not be getting them. I do, however, have to get new glasses, only a bit more than the eye drops and much longer lasting – one hopes!
.

Overnight our little corner seemed to have reverted to Winter, with the fields plowed and almost all trees now bare. In the newly recovered pond, a gaggle of geese bobbed about.
.

As grey and wintry as it seemed in Cambridge, over by Greenwich things were more colourful.
.

As we drove back to Cambridge, a weather front seemed to be moving in.
.

At the top of the ridge above our valley, we feel very close to the sky.
As if you could reach up and hitch a ride on a cloud.
.

The view from up there is grand. You can see the great orange clumps of tamarack.
.

We carried on into the village to collect mail. In the few minutes that took, the sky darkened.
.

Turning onto our road, we startled two fawns…
.

They rushed off in a hurry to the woods.
.

The Sun was in and out for the rest of the day. Just before dark it lit up the tamaracks down by the horse farm. It looked as if the woods were on fire.
It’s as if those trees demand to be noticed.
.

As I was saying…having to go out again the following day, we took a short spin.
And found some more.
.

Lots more.
.

How did I only start noticing them a couple of years ago?
.

Apart from the tamaracks, there was a lot of colour still to be seen…
.
Meanwhile, there has been a radical change in the scenery.
Here’s a clue:
.

Now I’ve got more catching up to do.
.
Thank you, Carolyn, for the interesting update on the events in your life, and the stunning pictures of the clouds, trees and the first snow! Here, we have very mild weather with temperatures reaching 18 degrees!

Where are you getting glasses, regardless of Rx, that are 900 bucks?
The lenses have prisms which correct the double vision. I can’t begin to imagine how they make them so I’m not all that shocked by the price.
You can do that at Costco for about 180 (plus frame) and they can do it in bifocal. Buying glasses from the doc who bought into the program is asking to be abused (financially). Prism lenses have been around long before Neurolens. Zenni, Warby Parker etc. can get you out the door, depending on frames, from $150 to $400. Prism should be a $40 to $80 add, max.
Good to know! Thanks.
The rich get richer…. How on earth can anyone justify $900 for eye drops?
that is a crazy amount
Nine hundred dollars for eye drops? My goodness! While looking at your photos, I thought the Autumn colours are beautiful … and then suddenly … Boom⚡⚡, the last photo is 100% Winter! As much as I look forward to your Autumn photos, I can’t wait to see what your Winter will bring!
Snow already? $900 for eye drops. As we say here, “That’s taking the piss” . I thought of a new line for your national anthem, “The Land of The Free, where we don’t want you to see”.
Best wishes, Pete.
Just been chatting to my wife, who also has dry eye issues. Her optometrist sold her Thealoz Duo for dry eyes. It’s also available on Amazon for between £9 and £14 for a 30-dose bottle or single-use doses. Better value than $900 dollars, and just as effective.
Thanks Pete. My doc has ordered something else that hopefully is covered and is ceertainly cheaper!
Yes, dry eyes. Oi!
What a lovely text and photos, so true and delicious!
