Picture book

0932/14th October 2025

Fall may appear to be over in many places, such as down at the horse ranch,

.

but just up the road here, the scene is different.

.

It’s almost three seasons on a single hill slope.

.

On November 2nd, our clocks go back to eastern standard time which sees sunset occurring ridiculously early. Almost everyone complains about these twice-yearly time changes, so you would think that this surely is one thing we could all agree to banish.

.

The red tree lights up in late afternoon, like a flame.

But I suspect I’ll be moaning about it for the rest of my life.

Actually I don’t moan about it, but I do think it’s daft.

.

Three little red clouds

Most mornings these days, I wake up with a sense of foreboding, but this is soon dismissed by the latest incarnation of sunrise.

.

Eating my humble breakfast, I sit facing the window in order to keep an eye on the horizon because often modest beginnings lead to dramatic developments.

.

Sometimes they start big and dissipate fast, but days like this…

.

…you have to stay glued to the window. Well, I do.

.

The original three little red clouds remained in place for the duration, merely changing their complexion, as if they had overseen the event.

It must seem repetitive to constantly post images of the same thing, yet while it may be the same subject, the content will always be different, which is part of the appeal, for me. That, and the fact that it changes by the moment.

Additionally, as I think I’ve said before, I lived most of my life without access to such a view, so now that I have it, I am compelled to share it.

.

After that fine start we went out for a bit.

.

In search of other pictures….

One thing can be said about my blog, it won’t take up too much of your time, like a child’s picture book.

  1. Thank you, Carolyn, for the delightful “Picture book”! I love your method of sky study by being glued to the window, which brought spectacular results. I don’t like time changing twice a year, too. It disrupts my daily routine for no logical reason. I’d better listen to Mozart for his calming influence.

  2. Our clocks go back on the 26th of this month. Then it will be pitch dark by 5pm, with the day seeming to be much too short. I enjoy the views from your window, as I can only see the rooftops of other nearby houses from the windows in our house.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. That one red tree is beautiful among all the other green trees. I’m also ‘guilty’ of posting photos with the same image a few times in one post … and my excuse is the same as yours (“it changes by the moment”) 😉. I love your picture book!
