The view from our kitchen window has changed dramatically these past few days.
.

A study in brown.
.

And grey. We’ve not seen this for months!
Meanwhile at ground level…
.

“Euh! I’m stuffed!”

“Must you take pictures of me looking like this?”
“It’s not my fault I have to pack on the pounds for a long sleep.”
.

If Wednesday’s rain was a disappointment, Thursday’s lengthy downpour made up for it. In a matter of hours we went from severe drought to flash floods, as is often the case since hard-baked earth is almost waterproof.
For us this is not usually a problem, being that we live on a hill, though we did get home once to a flood in the garage because of a blocked gutter.
That was a good opportunity to clean a dirty floor!
One result of dark, wet days was a marked change in the foliage.
.

Which was very nice but impossible to capture as we drove through torrents of rain.
.

A brief lull in Greenwich allowed for a shot of the hill.
.

And back home another quick picture of our own changed view.
Luckily we did not have much wind which would have brought down even more leaves. Now that they have taken on their Fall colours, it would be nice for them to stay affixed for a few days at least.
.

Even before the rain our massive sunflower was having difficulty holding up its heavy head.
After a very wet Thursday it was positively droopy. But still standing.
.

Which keeps the bees happy.
.

The above was before the rain. I had to climb on a chair to take pictures of the bees. This one was with the telephoto. It reminds me of pictures that I’ve seen of the Sun itself.
Sunflowers are amazing.
That groundhog can afford to have a very long sleep this year!
Love to see the bee on the damp sunflower. The groundhog is so fat, it made me laugh! 😊
Best wishes, Pete.
Thank you, Carolyn, for the wonderfully beautiful post! Starting with the Full Moon, the landscapes, the fatso Mr Carrot, and everything else!

Haha, I think if that groundhog takes one more bite, its stomach will burst 😁. I’m glad you got a good downpour – it feels like the autumn colours are more vivid during the rain. And the bee on the sunflower – those are stunning photos (worth climbing on a chair)!
