Procession

25th August 2025

If we weren’t going home, where were we going?

What the impetus was for an extended expedition, I don’t know, but we were out and the day had taken a delightful turn, so why not?

.

Remaining the other side of Greenwich, we headed north on the west bank of the Hudson.

.

Not totally new territory, but this was a road we’d never taken before and we had no idea where it would take us.

.

There are some very lovely homes along it. This one for sale.

We could fit a lot of cats into that house. It’s how I evaluate properties ever since I purchased a place in Washington for the purpose of fostering!

.

This I believe was a canal, not the river. Those little white dots were water lilies.

.

Before long we’d be at the border and I didn’t have my passport!

Well, not quite, but it isn’t far.

.

Soon we found ourselves in Fort Edward and crossing back over the Hudson, we stopped briefly at one of the locks where the Cafe Latte had just passed through, flying the maple leaf flag of Canada.

Reportedly, most Canadians are boycotting the States these days.

.

Turning south, we took Blackhouse Road which crosses a broad open hill offering great views of the landscape. It’s a good place for walking and bird watching.

.

We didn’t see any birds, but there were quite a few butterflies and one put on a display, flying circles around me as I tried to shoot a video of the tall grasses. I had intended to capture the sound of the wind and the hum of insects but what with trying to follow the Monarch, it didn’t turn out very well!

.

We carried on past farms and horse ranches.

.

The view from up there is wonderful.

.

And I was really enjoying the clouds. What else is new?

.

That afternoon it was like an army.

.

Marching across the sky.

.

In an endless procession.

  1. Thank you, Carolyn, for the lovely views of the procession of clouds, a few friendly butterflies, a nice house for sale, but a bit too close to a main road, and for mentioning that Canada is not for sale, as the reason for not many visitors on this side.

  2. I love driving on roads without knowing where they will end – maybe it’s that thought of: “It’s not the destination, it’s the ride.” You’ve shown us so much beauty on your drive today … and it’s always great to look up at the sky and see beautiful clouds. Thanks for a lovely ride!

  3. I loved those fluffy white clouds against the bright blue sky. I always call those ‘cartoon clouds’, as they remind me of the depiction of clouds in old cartoons.
    Best wishes, Pete.
