The above view was obscured early yesterday by morning mist, in a lovely pastel shade, entirely acceptable, unlike this morning’s smoke which is thick once more.
.

Even before my rounds, I was out capturing images.

As long as I’m not going somewhere in an aeroplane, or driving, I’m a fan of mist.

Which brings to mind a memory from several decades ago of a friend who arrived at work one foggy morning and announced that visibility was so bad, she’d seen ducks walking along Southern State Parkway. Ducks often walk, of course, but it struck me as funny.
A dove watched me, wondering when I’d get around to topping up the feeders.
.
No sooner did I get around to that, than the foxes showed up.
“I love you Mum.”
You can understand how foxes inspired a dance step. Trotting is what they do
.
Torn Ear still manages it quite well despite an injury. She’s been keeping one leg elevated for some days now, though the nature of the wound is unclear. We can only hope that it will heal.
.

Later, I was summoned to the vegetable patch where the squashes are progressing.
There are several varieties but I must confess that we are confused as to which is what.
.
We hope to have at least a few squashes to harvest but in the meantime bees enjoy the flowers. So it’s a “win, win” sort of arrangement.
.
On my way back from the vegetable plot, I took a picture of a gladiola. Then when I downloaded it, I noticed the spider, so I went back out to see if it was still there.
Perhaps I’d get a better shot.
(This is progress, considering I used to be terrified of spiders.)

.
The spider was gone. In its place an insect, identified by my app as a Mesilla bee.
Downloading the new images, I found myself reminded of swans.
How I wish I had one of those to photograph!

Swans are very photogenic, but you found some wonderful other options to point your camera at, Carolyn.
Best wishes, Pete.
Thank you, Carolyn, for featuring a beautiful spider, and then a bee, both my favourite insects!
Mist or no mist, your photos are always excellent!
Joanna
That’s an excellent representation of a swan preening itself ready to go out!
Terrific fox pics. They do appear to like showing off the offspring.
Not a swan. But no ‘ugly’ ducklings either.
I love to go hiking in mist – perhaps it’s because I feel like there is an aura of mystery to that. But definitely not to drive in such weather conditions – that’s nerve-wracking! The photos of the foxes are beautiful (and I hope for the best for Torn Ear … and also for the growing veggie patch). If I use my imagination, your last photo could almost pass for a swan!
