Another torrent of rain saw us off to Albany on Wednesday.
For reasons known only to the driver, we took a different route, as guided by GPS and we made a mental note to go that way again – in fair weather.
.
By the time we returned it had at least stopped raining and we turned off down a side road that led to water of some sort.

.

It turned out to be a curious kink in the Hoosic River.

.
Apparently to do with hydroelectricity.

.

A little sunlight would have gone some distance to cheering up a rather unhealthy-looking aquatic expanse.

There was nothing in the way of waterfowl, yet there was some life…
.
Daisies seem to thrive everywhere, almost as plentifully as dandelions.

.

What I took for sludge in the water turned out to be water-chestnut, according to PlantNet.
.
Turtles sat along a log.

.

They don’t hang around to get checked out, so I did my best with the telephoto then we left them in peace.
.
The diversion down Fisherman’s Lane caused us to meander, but pretty soon we recognised this tree and realised we were back on the road we’d traversed earlier.

.

We found ourselves on newly surfaced tarmac.
Not something we take for granted.
.
Our own local road has been patched up a couple of times, then promptly washed out again.

.

Dark silhouettes would have to suffice for scenery.
.
And an old farm truck.
Old but apparently still in working order.

It was another of those days when we felt everyone had vanished.

.
The freeway near Albany had been fairly busy, but back here in Cambridge there wasn’t a soul in sight.
We’re happy to live in Cambridge.

I think we would be happy to live in Cambridge too!
I think Daisies are one of those flowers that must represent strength and perseverance – I seem to always find them in nature in any season. I sometimes forget we live near Cape Town – here on the farm it’s so quiet (except early in the morning and late in the afternoon when the tractors move in and out of the barns). I think Cambridge is the perfect place to stay!
