Good news and bad news for this weekend’s Balloon Festival.
Current wildfire smoke from Canada may dissipate but that’s because rain is predicted.
Ballooning seems an impractical sort of enterprise, dependent on way too many factors.
While I daresay it is nice to float above the earth, personally I’d rather get excitement elsewhere.

On Monday, before the smoke arrived, we had to go to Glens Falls.
It was a rare afternoon outing.

It was a fine day for noticing pretty trees.
But what were they? We made a note to stop on the return journey.

Having noticed one…

…we soon realised the road was lined with them.
Seeing these trees, at this stage and in this light reminded me of the ice storm we had on Boxing Day last year. You have to be there at just the right moment.

I have say, Carolyn, those spectacular trees made me excited too, because I didn’t know them! You are so lucky to live in a beautiful place that has everything: the spectacular trees, pathways that invite you to explore them, the sky and clouds, the river, flowers, wildlife, a friendly vet, and a doctor. Have I missed anything?

Tree-mendous!
Lovely trees! The only time I was going to go up in a balloon was when I was visiting Egypt with my second wife on our delayed honeymoon. I booked a balloon trip to drift over the Nile and see Luxor from above, followed by a champagne breakfast when it landed. The evening before we were due to go, they left a message at our hotel that is was cancelled. We were the only two who had booked tickets, and they needed six to make it worthwhile. No balloon trip for me! 🎈

Black locust – I think they could have chosen a better (more appropriate) name for this beautiful tree, don’t you think so too? Hmm, that ice storm photo (which is beautiful by the way) makes me think of the cold front that just made landfall here in Cape Town. We might not get ice, but a lot of rain and cold weather is definitely on the cards this weekend!
