Trios

A squirrel, a chipmunk and a bunny.

Bunnies eat dandelions like spaghetti.

.

On Saturday we caught sight of another lovely creature.

.

We don’t often see highland cattle here and seldom so close up.

What makes them so endearing?

.

The shaggy fringe perhaps?

.

This morning, we had a different trio to breakfast:

.

Bird seed thief!

.

It was a day for trios. We seldom take a direct route home and we came upon:

.

Three beautiful horses.

.

Followed by three more…

.

Road painting caused us to deviate further so Grant took me to see the house our neighbour had shown him.

Unremarkable, it sits in a quiet Greenwich side street.

.

More interesting for the fact that it was moved twice than for having once been the residence of a man who would become the 21st President of the USA.

That second move was a matter of only several hundred yards which seems rather extraordinary.

.

The name was familiar, but knowing nothing of the man, I looked him up on Britannica where I found some interesting facts and images.

Chester Arthur became President in 1881, after the assassination of James Garfield

The political posters and cartoons of the time were colourful:

.

Hm…there’s that T word.

.

.

Without investigating any further, I have the sense that really nothing much has changed in the political world. But you only need to look at history to know that it never does.

.

Which is why I prefer this one, any day.

Even when it’s overcast.

  1. You have enough animals nearby to start a basic zoo. I knew nothing about that president, but reading about how he excluded Chinese labour, I suspect Trump would admire him.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Thank you, Carolyn, for the spectacular post; a wonderful lesson in American history with colorful cartoons, and delightful animals, most of course, your friends!
