Looking up

14th April 2025.

.

Wispy clouds always cheer me.

.

So too a pair of pretty horses.

.

We came this way a few days ago hoping to catch sight of the highland steer which lives nearby.

.

It was out of range behind its barn, so I had to be satisfied with just knowing that it is still there.

Up the road, we waved hello to the goat and steer who are always together.

Seeing that they both looked in need of a few square meals, I decided not to post their picture.

.

Passing through Cambridge, I had to keep my eyes lifted away from those offensive tree stumps.

.

With shopping to do, we overshot our road and as we passed the pond a light aircraft buzzed over. (That black dot)

Normally the only aircraft we see are at high altitude and our “airport” is the other side of town. It consists of a couple of Nissen huts and a short landing strip.

.

Will there be a balloon fair this year? It was a yearly event until Covid and although it was supposed to be revived last year, bad weather wrote it off.

As I recall there was a half-hearted party of sorts in the village but no-one got airborne.

.

Twin clouds appeared to steer us toward Greenwich.

.

Up over the hill…

.

…past the ghost trees.

(Not sure why, but those few silver birches have always looked ghost-like to me.)

.

The cloud seemed to urge us to follow.

.

Till suddenly we went awry.

.

In Greenwich we were back on track.

.

Straight into Hannaford’s parking lot.

.

Returning home, I still had my head in the clouds.

.

They made a nice image as we came up the hill.

.

Approaching the house I was surprised to notice flowers!

Anemones. Balkan, Greek or Apennine, depending whose opinion you favour.

As I recall they first appeared last year although we did not plant them.

.

Water drops replace ice from now on.

.

Later that came came a significant change in the weather pattern.

.

With an entirely different mood.

.

These moods are ever-changing and by evening there was another shift, which I’ll post tomorrow.

An email this morning informed me that things are at last looking up for my brother.

Which was the most cheering news I could hope for.

  1. Very happy to hear that your brother is improving. When we moved to Norfolk in 2012, we were amazed by the ‘big skies’ and uninterrupted views. That feeling has never gone away, and I always remember to ‘look up’.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. One can only be pleased that things are looking up for you, Carolyn. Thank you for your photos of the trees, the sky, and the clouds.
