.

Yesterday morning was far too beautiful to come straight home, so we shot past our turn and I got some pictures that I’ll share in two parts.
.
Let’s start with the birds….
.

We ended up doing a loop and met these guys going and coming.

They have yard and pond but seem to prefer wandering about along the road.
We often see them there.

.

On the way up, Grant spotted a heron in another pond but it was on the wrong side so I didn’t get a picture.
Then, when we came back it took flight.
.

Magnificent bird!

.

As we turned around to come in the opposite direction, a group of wild turkeys wandered across the road.
.
We pulled over to watch and let them pass and were annoyed when a mail van passed, barely pausing to avoid them.
The mail must be delivered, I suppose.

.

But, the birds seemed untroubled and moved off into a field with the lads among them making displays to the girls or maybe trying to impress each other.
.
The ladies seemed not to notice.
They were more interested in what they could find to peck at.

.

But we enjoyed the show.

.
Wild turkey sightings improve any day.

.
The Turkeys are always impressive in the wild. We don’t have them here of course, only in ‘factory-farms’ to be killed at Christmas and Easter. It is colder and cloudy today here, I was spoiled by good weather on holiday!
Best wishes, Pete.
Thank you, Carolyn, for the wonderful photos of the birds! Very impressive and spirit lifting!

Oh, Carolyn! Fabulous bird pictures. As you can imagine, I am entranced by the heron in flight, but the show off turkey is also a treat!
I love how herons lift themselves into the sky rather than a conventional takeoff!
