The right light

.

“Didn’t you say you WEREN’T going out today?”

Willow doesn’t really mind, as long as I tell her.

It seriously bothers me if I can’t find her when I’m going out, which isn’t often, but inevitably happens anytime I’m in a hurry.

When Grant’s already got the car out!

As long as I’ve lived with animals, I have always called out to them when leaving the house, but since Panther’s days it has been a requirement.

.

“I only care that you come back to feed me my supper!”

Demerits yesterday.

Their dinner was late.

Lunch has no fixed time.

Dinner is expected!

.

Of course, it was Grant’s fault.

Though to be fair, we had said we ought to make a point of going out late in the day.

.

The world looks entirely different in the afternoon, so suddenly we were out the door.

.

“We’ll go past the cat barn.” I was informed.

On sunny days a gang of cats hangs out in the doorway, but we always sail by too fast for a proper look.

.

However, it’s a very pleasant drive and it was good to see it in different light as we’ve always come this way much earlier in the day before.

.

Not so leafy now!

.

It’s always nice to see a farm get spruced up.

This one had hardly needed it.

Black seemed unusual but it looked very smart.

.

Deeply shadowed valleys made glimpses of the hills dramatic.

.

Copper coloured leaves radiated.

.

How peaceful the farms looked.

.

To me, the woods look good in any incarnation.

.

Twiggy lanes are fine as well.

After all, they grant a view of the sky.

.

Our direction was vaguely, I think, toward Sandgate.

.

We pulled over to let a car pass.

While we waited I noticed a seedy goldenrod lit up by the sun.

.

Instead of zigging we must have zagged, so we overshot Sandgate but we were definitely in Vermont.

.

In a familiar and lovely valley.

.

It is very photogenic.

.

Especially when those fields light up.

.

Sometimes even power poles fit.

.

If you see what I mean.

More so here, I’ll grant.

.

These are pictures I never got around to posting, taken ten days ago, returning from Clifton Park.

While I often curse such poles, I also frequently find myself photographing them like this and the angry sky set them off just right.

  1. One can now begin to see from the trees that Autumn is almost over … and yet, it still remains beautiful. You’re right, it’s interesting how different the same place can look in the morning and late afternoon. And I never thought power poles could look good in a photo – you’ve just proven me wrong!
