The Fall of 2022 was unbelievably stunning because the trees all showed their glorious splendour at once, a spectacle of shining gold set off against brilliant blue skies.

Oh, it was magnificent!

So many different factors come into play to result in such a display. I have seen it only once and while I may hope to experience it again, I simply count myself fortunate to have had the privilege two years ago.

In the meantime, the thing to do is appreciate the good bits as they occur.

Like life in general.

.

Such as…

The odd effect that a single ray of light may have, causing a field to appear strangely lit from beneath.

.

Eventually it included some of the nearby trees.

.

The frustrating thing about this moment was that I got outside and focused just as the light began to dim.

It had been stunning, seconds before.

It is interesting that so often light falls in this manner in the selfsame spots.

.

Sometimes it falls on the road you travel.

As if to light your way?

.

It may illuminate a single feature in a landscape.

.

The setting Sun works its own magic.

.

Backlighting. Another favourite effect.

While I hate power lines, sometimes they can be curiously effective too. It’s a matter of viewing an image through different eyes. Perhaps.

.

Storm clouds lend a hand.

.

Here’s another of those fields!

.

And another of those roads.

As we descended the hill, I kept clicking…

.

.

Usually I may save one or two such images, but here I found something to like in them all.

.

This time the lit-up field was on a hill.

.

A cloud obligingly moved along allowing sunlight to fall on that still-green tree.

.

Here it illuminated a row of poles.

.

Dramatic sunbeams.

Such things are also to be appreciated.

  1. Your photography is also to be appreciated! You should teach photography. Thanks for some spectacular views of autumn light, which helped distract me from politics during this tense time.

  2. Wow, your photos are stunning. I love that photo with the power lines and cars lit up by the sun – it almost looks unreal. And those sunbeams … yes, that’s a favourite, too.
