Misty mornings

0814/28th September 2024

.

While I wouldn’t call it beautiful, this morning’s sky was certainly interesting.

.

Mist began to form, as if summoned to create another glum day.

But then there was a change of heart.

“Nah, never mind, let’s do sunny!”

.

Yesterday the mist clung on longer.

.

It certainly made the colours pop!

.

So we took a very short ride.

.

Interestingly, we’ve noticed quite a few Harris/Walz election signs posted on people’s properties.

Often adjacent to people who are inclined the other way.

In prior years it was only the latter group that displayed their politics.

.

It’s not something I have ever felt the need to do, though I would this year if I felt it would do any good.

Living where we do, no-one ever comes up this way.

So instead I have a campaign button on my bag.

After all, I am a “childless cat-lady.”

.

We occasionally heard a train, when we first came here.

It turned out to be a sort of tourist train and I actually heard the sound again recently.

But judging by the state of these tracks, that train did not come this way.

.

Despite heavy overcast, the farm appeared bathed in light, an illusion created by the surrounding field.

.

Common Sense Farm describes itself as: “a confederation of twelve worldwide self-governing tribes, followers of Yeshua, following the pattern of the early church.”

They are regarded as a cult and there were reports of “child labour practices”, years ago.

All I can say is that they mind their own business and keep their farm in good order, appearing to live in peace.

.

You’ll see no criticism here.

.

.

Green Mountains lost in the mist.

.

Our route to the veterinary hospital, although we often come this way in our “travels.”

The osprey nests are up this way, but we didn’t go there this day. Last time we passed, they were out.

.

We wanted a short outing, so we would turn past the hospital and drive around, up and behind, coming back the other way.

.

It turned out to be a pleasing plan.

With some nice images.

.

The road climbs up a hill, offering nice vistas.

.

A well-known local farm looked very colourful.

.

Not all pines are evergreen.

.

Small birds were flitting about, too fast for me to capture.

.

As we drove up the hill, views were obscured by vegetation, so I got out to walk.

.

.

The Sun was forcing its way through.

.

What a tangle of vegetation!

At the top of the hill I climbed back aboard.

.

The hill had not been as steep on the other side.

My legs can only manage gentle slopes!

.

.

Heading back

.

Chasing that spotlight.

.

Crossing route 22, five minutes from home.

.

Which is when we saw the turkeys but couldn’t stop.

.

Oh, well!

  1. Oh, Carolyn, your photos are magnificent – they get better and better, and upstate New York seems one of the most beautiful places on the continent through your artistic eye!

  2. I think those skies could be called beautiful. When we get mist here, it hangs around the river on Beetley Meadows and can feel nice and ghostly at times. It is less welcome when driving after dark, when it can prove to be downright dangerous here.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  3. Love that first photo! And you’re right, the colour of the Autumn leaves is intense in the mist. It is a fact that nature looks beautiful in any kind of weather condition … or that’s what I believe any way. You know what? It’s never boring to get in the car with you and Grant – there’s always something new and something beautiful!
