Two days and nights of solid overcast.
Light show over, wide open sky.

You can’t win them all.
But I have always wanted to see the Aurora and this event was obviously quite special.

However, I can take pleasure in small things.
Twice a day I go up to the burrow where Scooter hangs out to replenish her food supply. Although we haven’t seen her for ages, we do see her drag marks which are unique.
Some afternoons Peanut is there. Looking for…peanuts!
We try to avoid startling the wildlife but there always seems to be someone around.

The groundhog hole is concealed now in heavy undergrowth.

Some of those small things that I enjoy!
There was a stiff breeze yesterday and bugs were biting so taking pictures of leaves was a bit challenging.
This one immediately made me think of Kermit the frog.

A brief ray of sun lit up budding leaves against a dark forbidding sky.

Sunbursts on stormy days are quite startling.

Did they plant the tree to match the house or paint the house to match the tree?

The lilac is just beginning to flower.

There are so many mouths to feed!

The squirrels have babies and feeding is an all-day activity for them. Little Red pops up everywhere.
There were plenty of nuts out last night but Little Red attacked the much bigger squirrel, hurling abuse at it.
They then continued their meal.

Those water jewels are just as precious as overpriced gems!
Enjoying the small treasures of nature is just as worthwhile as the rarity of the northern lights. The birds and animals give you such pleasure in return for your kindness to them.
