There’s no telling what will come next this Winter, but it has provided a few subjects for my camera.
Yesterday morning it was the traditional Winter landscape that I find irresistible.
.
Monday’s snow tapered off with a small additional accumulation overnight.
Because the temperature hovered around freezing, dawn revealed a world coated in ice.

.

Ice. One of my favourite subjects.
It looks as if I shall never again have the chance to create an ice-sculpture such as in 2021.
.
That year, temperatures sank below freezing and remained so for a full month.
Each morning, I tipped ice out of the bowl and re-filled it.
For no particular reason, I began stacking the ice formations and soon I had to begin a second stack.
When daytime temperatures finally began to moderate, I added the broom as a support.

.

Since then, it has not been anything like cold enough for such a project which has been disappointing because it was such fun.
But I daresay more moderate temperatures are preferable for all sorts of reasons.
.
The starling flock returned…

.

But only to sit in the trees.
Since Notso reappeared on Sunday, she hasn’t been seen again, so is she out there with them?
It’s easy to interpret what we see to suit our emotions, but I am certain that solitary cowbird went off with a flock of starlings.
.
The fact that another lone female cowbird turned up with a flock of starlings convinced me I was right because I don’t believe in coincidence.
Nor do I make up exotic tales to go with them.
There is some sort of meaning in Notso’s brief visit but I have no idea what that may be.
I only know we were pleased to see her.

.

Frosted trees are so beautiful.

Crackling frost?

As opposed to smooth?

.

A technical term of mine.

There is no doubt a real term for this sort of frost which I am sure has to do with the fluctuation of temperature around freezing point.
.
Not that I have ever actually seen frost quite like this before, except maybe when my freezer malfunctioned?
Maybe I am on completely the wrong track.
Wouldn’t be the first time.

.
By lunchtime, the frost seemed evermore startling…
.

.
At least to me.
You’ll be right in thinking I have a few more images but my computer is having serious *hiccups so I am going to quit now, while I am still able…
.
*Yetismith technical term.

Thank you, Carolyn, for this Ode to Frost and Winter that is not a picture of paradise as far as I am
concern! Give me sunshine, give me spring anytime!
As I love starlings, there was something for me too.
Your photos are beautiful as long as I am not in such a place as I would end up frozen too, just like your water bowls sculptures!
Joanna
Is Hoar Frost the correct term?
I remember your ice sculptures from 2021 – that was such a fun idea! Although you mention here that it’s not that cold right now, it still seems (to me) that one should put on a few layers of clothing if you venture outside. Yes, frosted trees and white landscapes … I really like your Winter pictures!
It looks lovely, from a distance. (3,348 miles, to be precise)
No ice or snow in Beetley as yet, despite hovering around 0C overnight. You can colour me very happy about that! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.
