1921/17th August 2026 – a congenial evening, right?

The camera having been hyper-active recently, I thought it a good idea before starting my next post, to eject a few more photos that had loitered overlong in the archives.

If only it were that easy.

It is likely I’ve created a bigger mess than I started out with, so I have abandoned that for the time being to go back a couple of days.

The weather around here changes on a dime, as they say.

It is entirely possible, living in this house, if you don’t like the look of it to simply get a much improved view from another window.

Let me demonstrate:

.

1936 on 17th August – facing south

.

Then, when I turned to face north – oh my!

As I’ve said often enough, I love a stormy sky, so I had to watch this develop.

.

From all angles.

.

It is striking how the vegetation stands out against a darkening sky.

The glow of sunset is supposed to be behind the house, off to the left here.

This was something I’d never seen before.

Although I did once have the privilege of seeing the Sun appear to rise in the west.

.

It is as if lit from within.

It is exciting to be outdoors as a storm approaches. I feel a sense of anticipation. There is great energy and the wind brings freshness, always so welcome after a hot day. I love the earthy smell at such moments.

As I said recently, I don’t flirt with electrical storms. Feeling the first raindrops fall, I retreat. There are no heroics from this old girl, even for a photograph.

Though – I did capture lightning once, purely by chance.

But that was from the safety of the porch.

Soon, I withdrew indoors as the sky darkened overhead.

.

There, I took one more shot before calling it a night.

Rain fell in torrents briefly and once more during the night.

By morning,it appeared to have passed, but as we drove to Bennington, it grew dark once more. Then, typically, the sky cleared to offer a different set of photos that evening.

An ever changing tableau…

  1. I also like stormy skies – but it’s a bit intimidating when we witness it unfolding while we’re camping 😉. Your photo with the lightning and rainbow is pretty amazing!
