Contrasts

Dead Lake, 14th April, 2026

Leaving Dead Lake, we went for a short inspection of other osprey nests which were all occupied though only the tops of resident’s heads were visible, so I got no photographs.

It was enough to know they are back and busy.

.

As much as I love Winter, a pretty Spring day is hard to beat!

.

The awakening world is fresh and renewed.

.

The Battenkill River got a good topping up the other night when the promised rain finally arrived in impressive torrents.

.

As our little valley got thoroughly drenched, the sky over Vermont was clear and bright.

.

It’s a contrast I have always liked.

.

The slick surface of the state route stood out against the dark.

.

Soon, the storm moved off and the hills were warmly bathed in the glow of the setting Sun

.

Glad to no longer have to bundle up, I went outside to watch the clouds drift away.

.

To smell the petrichor and hear the chirping peepers.

.

And enjoy the changing light.

.

Last year’s corn rows suddenly caught my attention.

.

Sun rays lit distant hills…

.

..the tips of trees across our road and the woods beyond.

.

And, as so often happens at such times, a perfect double rainbow appeared.

Thinking the show was over, I went back indoors.

.

But an hour later I rushed back out.

.

As rising mist enhanced the final glow of sunset.

.

  1. Thank you so much, Carolyn, for the wonderful photos of the landscapes, especially the double rainbow and the sunsets. All beautiful! Not surprising, as it is spring!

  2. Wow, it’s amazing how quickly the field has turned green after just the other day you still showed us fields covered with snow. Your photo with changing light is beautiful, but it’s the double rainbow that made me look twice – stunning.
