Our search for lumber took us to Schuylerville and the fastest route is via Greenwich where we were held up by road works. Oh no. Five whole minutes we waited. I pointed out that we could have gone a different way, so returning, that’s what we did.
.

The alternate route is considerably more than five minutes longer but it is much pleasanter.
And free of road works.
.

We headed down River Road to where we turn off coming from the other direction on our way from Clifton Park, onto Wright’s Road.
.

Dark red sumac lines the road.
.

Brightly lit, it stood out beautifully against dark woods.
Like stained glass.
.

The fields had been ploughed and we wondered what became of the soy crop this year.
Unsurprisingly, China now finds it more sensible to buy soy from Argentina, a country that our government has mysteriously found it necessary to support with a large sum of money.
And now I hear they propose to import Argentine beef. To compete with home grown.
.

No doubt in due course we’ll be told why all of this is an excellent idea.
Some people will believe it, more’s the shame.
.

We try to avoid ruining a nice day with political discussions.
.

Allen’s Road made a prettier picture than last time we came past on a grey, wet morning.
.

How long till the fields are snow-covered?
Although I love the sight, this year I’m happy to wait.
.

It’s more a matter of not wanting Fall to end than of not wanting Winter to start.
If you see what I mean.
.

More of that cheerful sumac.
.

Another box of Newberry Fruits Peter? (Fruit jellies)
.

It was such a colourful morning!
.

It was worth taking the long way round which we wouldn’t have if not for those road works.
.

No, I’m not ready for it to be over, though we’re getting there fast.
.
I am feeling the same, Carolyn, as I don’t like the cold, snow and having to dress in more clothes. Thank you for the beautiful photos of autumn!
Joanna
You reminded me of when we were in Ukraine during the winter and taking 10 minutes to dress to go out in the -20C weather.
Love your day drive photos, Carolyn.
They call it Globalisation…I still can’t understand how frozen prawns from Argentina cost less in our supermarkets than Australian-caught prawns.
When you live in such a traffic-free area, the fact that you complain about a 5-minute delay due to roadworks is actually really funny. 😊 But you did get to see some nice scenery by avoiding them.
Best wishes, Pete.
Ha, a 5-minute stop at roadworks can sometimes feel like an hour – especially when you’re on your way to a weekend getaway (speaking from personal experience 😁). The red sumac along the road is lovely … oh, and just to end my comment: Roadworks isn’t always a bad thing if, as a result, you end up on such a beautiful road!
Making my mouth water again with those delicious New Berry fruits!
So many beautiful clouds. So many beautiful colours. And then comes winter… I seem to need one extra layer per year as I get older. I HATE being cold.
