Long warm evenings and walking barefoot on the grass are two things anyway that I like about summer, the season I like least.

Wildlife activity is another, of course.
This year has produced a bumper crop of skunks!
One evening recently, as I passed the sliding door I noticed a small black and white furry ball which turned out to be a pair of skunks competing for nuts, pushing and shoving.
Soon a third skunk arrived and as I continued to watch, a deer hove into view.
These are but a few of the skunks we see.
The one we call Tipper came by one night with three babies. It was getting dark by then and the camera was in the wrong room, so I didn’t get a photo.

In the past we’ve had quite a lot of deer visit us as they like to eat our apples. Lately though, we see just this one and she visits most nights.
It’s quite likely she comes by every night. It’s just a matter of whether we look outside at the right moment.

And picking the right moment is crucial. Last night I timed it just right:
We always hope to see fawns!
They are pure delight. All legs and bounding about full of joy. When we were first here, two years in a row – on the same date – fawns were born in the lower field and the second time, it was twins.
It was that experience that prompted me to purchase a camera with a telephoto lens.
“You like my baby?”
If I could only tell you how much!
And if I could only protect you all.

To be honest, I can’t wait for those long warm evenings (especially when it’s as grey, cold, and wet as today). It must be wonderful to watch the wildlife from your front door – and yes, it really looks like a ‘skunk dance’ – perfect heading for that video! And the fawn is just so cute – posing for you to capture him/her from all angles 😊.
